Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Marriage was doomed because they’re from two different worlds
The X books and the corner of the setting Black Panther occupies. They’d always be pulled apart
But they work great as two people who are into each other
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWhen it comes to villains, I’d prefer Black Panthers movie series try to adapt his characters and antagonists first before giving other series’ villains instead.
My sole, solitary exception to that preference is Dr. Doom, but even then I’d still prefer Doom to be saved for a later movie, or a crossover - especially since Fantastic Four is actually happening.
Because I have nothing better to do, I have taken the time to look up Black Panther's central rogues gallery. According to Wikipedia.
Already featured in the MCU: Killmonger was already the Big Bad and is dead; Klaw was a Disc-One Final Boss and, while he did have more potential, is dead; M'Baku is both good and not a really racist caricature; Nakia is good and not insane; and the White Wolf is just Bucky.
Will be featured in the MCU: Black Knight will be a hero, though I'm not sure about the Nathan Garrett incarnation; Kraven the Hunter is 90% likely to be the Big Bad of Spider-Man 3; Doom... yeah, I really don't see him as the villain of a Black Panther movie.
Were in the tv shows (consider these in whichever section you want): Cockroach—how the fuck is he a Black Panther villain? Wikipedia, you can be kind of shit sometimes. Anyways, he was in Luke Cage and is dead; the Hand (seriously Wikipedia, da fuck?) were in the Netflix shows and most of the leadership is probably dead; and Nightshade was also in Luke Cage and is not dead.
Yet to be adapted at all: Achebe, probably the most likely choice for the villain; Fenris, which I already proposed; a Deviant named Ghaur, unlikely; minor Spider-Man villain Overdrive, also unlikely; Lady Bullseye, even more unlikely; Moses Magnum, saw him proposed earlier but honestly don't see anything too interesting; Psycho-Man and Radioactive Man, either of which I wouldn't mind seeing; a snake dude named Venomm, which is a really stupid name; and the Sons of the Ser-HA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OH, OH MY GOD, OH MY FUCKING GOD, HA HA HA! OH, oh, oh... yeah, no.
I'm actually pretty surprised Namor wasn't on the list. He's definitely still a contestant for somewhere down the line.

Black Panther’s rogue gallery is weird because sometimes he’s a king dealing with king shit and sometimes he’s subbing in for daredevil or teaching inner city school and punching robbers
Forever liveblogging the AvengersFor many years that's how Star Wars and Star Trek operated. If it wasn't in the movies (or TV shows in Star Trek's case), the canon was dubious at best and open to being contradicted by future live-action or animated installments, which carried a stronger degree of canonicity. Even before the Disney merger you had a lot of cases of lore points established in the Star Wars books and comics being outright contradicted by stuff like the prequel movies and the Clone Wars tv show.
That's probably the best way to look at the Marvel TV shows, since, with a few exceptions, they were done without the input of the movie division. Hell, we had an entire debate on this thread years ago about the canonicity of movie novelizations, since a few of those had some out there plot points that do not make any sense as the franchise progresses (most famously the claim that the new element Tony invented in Iron Man 2 was vibranium).

x2 Considering that Guardians 3 comes before Thor: Love and Thunder(or at least that was the plan), that would kinda make sense.
If they are dealing with Adam Warlock, Thor being in Guardians 3 would make sense.
Also, the current comic book guardians have Hercules as a member right now (I don't know the actual reasons for that) so it may be that Thor is there as a kind of MCU Expy of him....which is funny to me.
I don't know if Herc is meant to be an Expy of Thor or not, but he sure fills that Big Guy who also happens to be a deity role pretty well.
Plus, they are the most well known members of their respective Pantheons too.
One Strip! One Strip!

Maybe a this point magneto should be dead and someone else take is mantle? because finding more and more ways to keep him alive is getting weird a this point.
