Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Villain Protagonist has issues on this front too. Even if the writer does try to portray him as an asshole, the whole Sympathetic P.O.V. thing is in play.
Disgusted, but not surprisedAnd the fact that it's this particular villain - one who has long had a Draco in Leather Pants Misaimed Fandom issue - makes it even more problematic.
Disgusted, but not surprisedIf I was going to do it, I'd have another character be the actual viewpoint character. Kind of like how the Joker one-shot was framed.
It'd still be about Doctor Doom, but the viewpoint character we'd follow would be someone else.
And just like in the Joker one-shot comic, the series would end with the viewpoint character being killed, a casualty of one of Doctor Doom's petty schemes against his archenemy.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI think the Breaking Bad approach would work best here, where it seems like he's sympathetic at first but as the series goes on, it's clear that he's really just a huge asshole.
The legend has returned.![]()
Pre-cyborg Lucia von Bardas, maybe? That's the only Doom supporting character I can really think of. Maybe his wife, but that I feel would cross into blatant fridging.
I went to Wikipedia to look for other characters that might fit the bill (also to see if he actually had a wife in the mainstream continuity, may have mixed that up with another series), but his page had been replaced with Galactus for some reason.

Ya know issues with villain protags aside, it is quite cathartic to possibly finally get an accurate Doom after his character keeps getting bungled in the movies.
Especially after Fant4stic & trash head training dummy.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Who will be ok wearing a mask most or all of the movie? Because that’s one character for whom the superhero movie trope of popping the mask off as much as possible does not work
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMy darkhorse pick is Goran Višnjić. He plays a sympathetic and sometimes Laughably Evil villain in Timeless (who Word of God compared to Magneto, a somewhat similar character). And being Croatian, he has the right look for Doom's pre or un-disfigured appearance.
I also like the popular suggestion of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, since Jaime Lannister is a (kind of noble and sympathetic) bastard with Prince Charming good looks. And I think Coster-Waldau would still come across as charismatic even if his face was covered most of the time.
Sorry, first time posting. Again, I'm pretty doubtful that it's actually real. I just saw it, and thought it would be a cool discussion piece. Not much else to do in this drought...
Besides, it wasn't from WGTC, so how wrong could it be?

Well if it's the voice that is so important to conveying the majesty of Doom, then truly there is but one who has tones of sufficient intelligence, charm and power: Gilbert Gottfried. You know it's true.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."If we're casting DOOM solely by voice alone, I'd say Keith David, but only because I really want Keith David's voice somewhere in the MCU already.
However, more seriously, I'd pretty much Nth the idea that everyone I could think of is already in the MCU.
That said, we'd want someone around the same age as whoever they would cast for Reed, so maybe we should be looking at younger (that is, late 20's - 30's) actors with a lot of stage presence.

Voice wise, I liked Paul Dobson from "Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes (2006)" best.
But you gotta remember, Doom is not always in ham mode.
