Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I didn't really need Spider-Man involved with Doctor Strange, but I am looking forward to Wanda.

I bet the comedians of the Marvel Universe had a field day with that one.[lol]

That is, provided they know what the Man-thing is....or rather they know what his name is.

Any word on if Happy might return for Spider-Man 3? I wouldn't be surprised if he does, and he's listed on the Wikipedia page for the film. But I personally haven't heard anything about it and Wikipedia is not very trustworthy in my experience.

I'm not sure what Happy would even do here, since it would probably be a bad idea to take Peter in while he's a fugitive.

That depends on if Peter is actually a fugitive or just had his reputation slandered.

Considering the whole "legacy of Iron Man" deal has been resolved, Happy doesn't really have anymore reason to stick around.

I mean if there's anything we've learned, it's that people don't react rationally to... anything.

I honestly am curious how it would have been if we got comic book Thanos/Infinity Gem story.

Interesting to see how that story would have worked out without Adam Warlock.

There's a part of me that thinks that if Whedon had returned to do the third Avengers film, it probably would've been closer to the comic story. I'm not sure if he would've been split into multiple parts like Infinity War and Endgame, but I can imagine his Thanos being a madman obsessed with Death (if maybe something more akin to a fanatic worshipper than an unrequited lover). It would fit in with the "to challenge them is to court death" line from the first film.

How could the MCU even do Adam Warlock from now on anyway? He's missed the train on the Gems-Thanos storyline.

Well he's set to appear in Guardians 3 as apart of Ayesha of the Sovereigns revenge plan against the Guardians.

Though of course however he appears will be a brand new interpretation of the character.

I feel like the Adam Warlock parallel would have been Doctor Strange. It's basically his role in Infinity War either way (the ruthless schemer opposite to Thanos).

Some people thought Vision was going to fill in Adam Warlock's role in the story early on, due to his connection to the Mind Stone being analogous to Adam's connection to the Soul Stone.

It didn't quite end up that way...

Poor Vision. He dies painfully once, then again in the span of like two minutes. And he's probably going to end up as like a lotus eater illusion or something in Wandavision and if that's the case we're likely going to see him die again...

I think the series will end with Vision restored to life in some capacity, though I'm not quite sure how.

I'm not 100% on that, but I would be surprised if he stays dead.
