Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

What do you suppose will be the definition of "The Avengers" going forward?
Like, once Endgame has Captain America refer to everyone fighting Thanos as "Avengers" (even nameless sorcerers or Wakandan soldiers). So will future movies still refer to the Avengers as being a distinct group of heroes with their own headquarters and public identity? Or will "Avenger" be a label applied to any superhero from now on (at least while teaming up with another hero)? Or will they retire the Avengers brand now that it's been diluted among so many characters, with all subsequent teamups having different names to distinguish one grouping of characters from another (since I doubt we're going to get another "everyone is in this" flick for quite a while, if ever)?
With most of the original Avengers dead or retired or acting off planet, and the X-Men being outcasts by definition, I could see the Fantastic Four being set as the new public 'face' of superheroes.
Ideally, Reed should be the 'next, bug bigger' Tony in terms of being the major thinker and spokesman of the superhero community, let's just hope he's less of a screwup at that job.

Moon Knight has never been a member of the Midnight Sons. The only time they more or less team-up was during the Damnation crossover, but the team forms and disbands during this storyline.
I find it funny that this isn't at all the first time I see MK being mentioned as being a "recurring member of the MS". He just fits so well into the team, he mist have been a member from a long time, right? He just radiates that MS vibe.

Huh. I seem to remember Moon Knight being more reocurring in the MS. I remembered in the Damnation crossover Wong referring to Moon Knight as a recurring member of the MS. I think I got my wires crossed with the "Marvel Knights".
In either case he fits like a glove, throw him there.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."So if, hypothetically, they did a film that teamed up Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Valkyrie, and whoever the new Black Panther ends up being, would that be an Avengers movie or something else entirely?
I mean, at that point I think you're arguing semantics; in-universe the Avengers probably haven't been a "thing" since Civil War (at least I don't think the term is in the movies, could be in supplemental material). If they want market
as the Next Big Event then yeah, that would probably be the next Avengers movie.
A high number of the confirmed new Phase 4 (and beyond) characters are Avengers related. Shang-Chi, Blade, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Kate Bishop, Echo, Monica Rambeau (assuming she gets powers by the end of WandaVision and even Sersi and Black Knight from Eternals have all been Avengers at one time or another.
There's also still the remaining characters they have hanging around like Sam as Captain America, Scarlet Witch (and presumably Vision), Ant-Man and so on. I could very easily see Marvel doing a New Avengers movie involving some mixture of those characters (obviously not everybody). Especially if Kang is treated as a recurring villain and doesn't just appear in Ant-Man 3.
Alternatively we could see them break down the characters into smaller teams like Secret Avengers (of which Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, Winter Soldier, Valkyrie and War Machine have all been involved) and Young Avengers.

I like the New Avengers approach to the Avengers concept where - after the famed, larger than life team retires or moves or what have you, the symbol of the Avengers is taken up mostly by everymen and "regular people with powers" types who banded together to fight the good fight.
But I could also see them going the opposite direction, into Avengers Academy / Avengers Arena territory: with the Avengers becoming, like, an official organization interested in fostering and training new superpowered beings (including if not maybe especially kids, if we get more Young Avengers stuff) into heroes.

Well, you see, there's a very simple, albeit bullshit, scientific explanation for that.
I dunno, maybe Bruce's body is still filled with the churning gamma radiation of the gamma bomb, and the Hulk transformation turns all of that gamma energy into matter.

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if Falcon And Winter Soldier has John Walker say "You think this symbol on my forehead stands for France?!"

I'd like it if they ever found a way to tell a story about the false fifties 'Commie smasher' Captain America, while we are on the subject of Cap impostors.
Maybe in the What If? series? What happened to that anyway? I thought it was due this year?

Both Blade and Moon Knight are recurring members of the Midnight Sons (a.k.a the Avengers, but in anti-heroic, dark urban fantasy, basically marvel's Justice League Dark). The concept that Marvel would try to make The Avengers gambit (smaller properties that collide in a big crosover one) with the Midnight Sons is one that has been speculated about, hence the thought of Blade and MK crossing over.
I personally would love to see it. Throw in Ghost Rider and maybe Man-Thing and we got a party.
