Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It would be feasible with Batman and the Clayfaces. Just make it a guessing game of which of these characters (Karlo, Hagen, Payne, et al) is the incarnation of Clayface in the movie's plot.
With the Goblins, it's more complicated, since Norman and Roderick would always be too much of top suspects, and if you don't go with them it would be kind of... disappointing.
Not especially. Superhero is more a setting than it is a genre, so it's no more or less difficult to set up with superhero characters than it is to set up an action movie, or a drama movie, or a spy thriller, or a heist movie, or a space opera, etc and so on within the confines of the same.
The big thing getting in your way with a mystery adaptation in an adaptation is how verifiable the villain would be simply through research. So, like, if there's a "who is the Hobgoblin" movie, and Rod Kingsley is in the film, news sites will be all on it with "WHO'S PLAYING THE HOBGOBLIN!" articles and such. It's the same problem you get with adapting something that's popular and has a well known twist.
They would have to misdirect, subvert expectation, and do unexpected turns in the story to keep the mystery going. Stuff like, say, having the Kingsley brothers be in the film, but have the Hobgoblin turn out to be Daniel and not Roderick. Or have like every Hobgoblin identity be in the film in some way - Macendale, Kingsley bros, Urich, etc - and have the MCU version be an unexpected pick.
Then again, with how many audience members actually bought Mysterio's claim to heroism despite it being Mysterio, maybe they don't need to go that far.

It’s be easy to introduce him with the same “stuck in iron lung since youth” but there’s not as much a point without tony
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHow would they be able to fold Hobgoblin into a Sinister Six plot? We know Electro is appearing in the next Spider-Man, and they've set up the Sinister Six well enough. If it's made of Scorpion, Prowler, Chameleon, Electro, and Hobgoblin, that only leaves one more, and I think it would be a good idea to bring back Vulture for the slot.
Maybe make Hobgoblin be the boss of the Sinister Six, and a big part of the plot is trying to figure out who Hobgoblin is, with him framing Ned.
I find it more likely Shocker is in the six than Prowler. The Aaron we've seen has 0 indication towards becoming a supervillain. I think the roster as indicated so far would be:
- Vulture
- Shocker
- Scorpion
- Mysterio
- Electro
- ???
There is of course the possibility Morbius somehow figures into it given Vulture is in his solo movie.
Hobgoblin would be nice.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Carnage... really wouldn't work in a team. Unless everyone is motivated to killing as many people as possible, then Carnage ain't gonna play ball following orders.
Now that I've actually seen Venom (2018), I'm actually really enamoured with the idea of Venom arriving in New York to help clear Peter's name, only he's just the worst. He keeps eating people, and Peter looks more like a bad guy by associating with scary alien monster that shoots tentacles at people.
Maybe Venom even decides to add the spider-logo to his chest because he likes Peter so much. Yeah, kind of goes against their core relationship in the comics. But my god, would it be entertaining to watch.

Okay, but Aaron has already set up Miles, and he needs to be Prowler for at least a short time before dying and inspiring Miles. In 616, Prowler became a supervillain just because it was easier than being a superhero and provided faster results, his plan was to steal stuff as Prowler and then recover it in his human identity as a fast-track to fame, and he pulled a Heel–Face Turn after just a couple outings.
They could do something like that, where Aaron turns into Prowler to join the Sinister Six to get his face out there and because he thinks the Sinister Six are good guys hunting down a Spider-Man turned evil. Once he realizes that Spider-Man was framed and the Sinister Six are actually a bunch of assholes, he switches sides on a dime to help him. And then he dies in the final battle helping out Spidey with Miles watching, setting Miles up for the next film.

I'm still not convinced that Holland's Peter has a crossover with Hardy's Venom.
Something great about their relationship was their personal hostility, but in this version something similar to Wanda with Thanos would happen. Only in this case the "I don't even know who you are" would apply to both sides.

Prowler doesn't need to die to inspire Miles. In fact, if Miles is to be used in the MCU you need to at least try to not just remake Spiderverse, and not having Prowler die (or not having Prowler at all at least in the first movie) would be a good start.
If we're going to use Miles in the MCU (far from a sure thing) I'd have Prowler come into fruition during his first movie and come in full form in the second rather than shoving him in the Sinister Six and killing him. Strikes me as too Spiderverse like.
Hell have Miles face the Techno Golem in his first outing, why not. Save Prowler for the second.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The 'New York incident' that got Movie Eddie ran into San Francisco was left unspecified IIRC, so I suppose they could tie Spider-Man into it via retcon. That being said Movie Eddie shouldn't be as obsessed about it since he never even mentioned Spider-Man through his movie.
And of course, that leaves the symbiote itself without a reason to care about Peter.

I imagine their enmity would be something like the new Broly and Goku.
The new Broly does not hate Goku, he just considers another enemy to defeat, and even at the end of the movie they say goodbye on friendly terms.
Although to be fair, the original enmity had a very silly cause, so we can understand why they removed it.

Sony more or less debunks the rumors of Maguire and Garfield returning for SM3.
I say more or less since it's worded in a very odd way. They say the rumors are "unconfirmed", but don't outright denied that there are talks.

Probably hard to do a satisfying mystery in the context of a superhero movie
