Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I think at best the netlfix shows will be Broad Strokes or not brought up when these characters are re-introduced so I'm not sure they'll go for that. I do want the actors back though.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Honestly Kingsley could prolly hold his own trilogy or even across the greater MCU as the Big Bad especially if they make good use of his Hobgoblin Inc.
Selling supervillain identities as well as providing the powers and equipment needed to become super would be a massive gamechanger.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The coolest thing about Hobgoblin is the way he treats supervillainy like an enterprise. His skills in misdirection, thing where he lends out the Hobgoblin armor to thugs and schemers who want to play supervillain while he, the real Hobgoblin, sits in luxury waiting for some hero to suss him out and make him put on the suit for real.
It's very different from the way Norman and co operate, less vendettas and maniacal plots, more utilizing the concept of supervillainy itself for his own benefit while being smart enough to form a while mystery around him, which is why I'd really love a Hobgoblin adaptation that for once doesn't make him part of the Goblin family (the 90's adaptation didn't, which I really love).
Yeah, a series where Kingsley is the Big Bad manipulating events and other villains behind the scenes would be awesome.

After finishing all PS 4 Spiderman DLC, I just want to say I just love and want to see Yuri Watanabe in the next movie.
But in the other hand, I don't want to in fear of how they would handle her. I hated, and I mean HATED what the game did to her in the last DLC. I mean, I didn't know her story from the comics (hell, I thought she was an oriinal character), so I kinda can forgive them for following the comics path, but it just wasn't necesary. She was awesome as Spidey cop pal! I suposse the next game will tell if it was the right decision or not.
So I just fear the movies will feel obliged to do the same, and ruin a potentially awesome character.
I'm sure the status quo in the next movie is going to be that the public believes Jameson but the authorities know for a fact that Mysterio was a liar. But Yuri as a cop who still believes Jameson and is fixated on capturing Spider-Man even though the rest of the department won't could let them split the difference between her as sympathetic character and her as antagonist.

That pretty much is her character from the comics, yes.
Bringing her into the MCU and making her just a friendly, helpful cop would just be unnecessary.
There are plenty of other characters like that who wouldnt need to be altered the way Watanabe/Wraith would be.

Even if Ned does become the Hobgoblin it doesn't mean he'd be a villain.
Though Kingsley's not that different: when he first put on the costume, he criticized Norman for not just selling the tech he come up with...but then admitted he liked the feeling of power that came from wearing the costume himself.
I feel like Roddy's always walked that fine line that lets him dip into the world, but never quite go all in. He's a little crazy, but a crazy that keeps him from making all the mistake Norman (and other villains) have made.
One Strip! One Strip! He (usually) knows when to fold ‘em
A rarity among the supervillain set
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think the Shocker is the only other one who knows better than to let personal shit cloud his judgment.
But nobody respects the Shocker.

I would love a superhero movie where the plot builds up to a climactic battle between hero and villain, and the hero gets their last second power up that will allow them to win, and then...
The villain just goes "you know what, fuck this" and nopes out.
They could do Jean DeWolff and not kill her. Though this is probably stuffing too much content in, they could theoretically also composite Yuri slightly with the Sin Eater, having her be Jean's partner who goes brutal vigilante.

Iron man armoured adventurers did this. Iron man and ghost are fighting as ghost has been paid to assassinate Tony stark. So iron man reveals that in the fight that he'll be able to outlast h in through sheer stamina. Ghost is all...okay I'll just leave... and then try again later as their wasn't any thing forcing him to continue.

That technically happened in Captain Marvel when Carol confronted Ronan. True, he wasn't the main villain, but it still had some of that tone to it.
I really want a "supervillain mob boss" character. Hobgoblin being like that would work really well for Spidey, too, since he's such a mix between street level and hi-tech villainy.
But it's also one of the reasons I want the Maggia to show up at some point. And not the "it's the regular Mafia, just renamed" version of the Maggia we keep getting in adaptations. The actual "supervillain-run international organized crime" Maggia, with Count Nefaria and everything. If not for Kang being in Ant-Man 3, they would've been the perfect villains for that series.

I did once GM a quest for a superhero rp. It ended with Wonder Woman getting to a room full of Mooks guarding contraband that were armed with guns. She told them to surrender. The Mooks looked to each other, calculated their odds, and promptly surrendered.
Leviticus 19:34![]()
There was that mook in Iron Man 3 who simply left when he saw Tony destroy his co-workers with repurposed gardening tools.
Part of what I'd like to see Kingley in a spidey movie is so we could have a superhero whodunnit. We don't do those too often.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."![]()
Yes. Probably the most clever mook in the MCU so far.

Hobgoblin Philip Urich may be a potential idea, if they also bring the Kingpin.
They could say that he turned bad to avenge the death of his uncle.
