Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I watched a bit of the first ep: Medusa does mention those Inhumans on earth.
But yeah, Marvel T.V. seems to be the red headed step child of the franchise, probably due to Permulter.
Which is a shame, because there's good stuff there. I know a lot of people are still judging Agents of Shield entirely on the first half of its first season, but there's a lot more stuff that was pretty good.
Yes, the Inhumans as a substitute for Mutants is still a thing there, but that doesn't take away from the show.
I'm hoping that (barring the last two seasons, which are kinda incompatible with what happened already) Marvel finds a way to incorporate a lot of stuff from that series into its later stuff. I think it's too good to toss out.
Same for the Netflix shows. I'll take a Broad Strokes approach to the entire thing honestly.

One Strip! One Strip!Would it?
Peter has been teaming up with Matt since he was a kid. They've known each other a long time.
I guess there's been a bit of a soft retcon on how old Matt is so that the gap isn't too huge (if he was in his 30's when Peter started, then he'd be in his forties now that Peter's an adult).
Of course, back in the day, people didn't realize Spiderman was a kid, which is something that gets played up quite blatantly in recent adaptations, so I suppose the claim they'd have a different dynamic isn't so crazy.
One Strip! One Strip! Also, Working the Same Case is a trope that has always worked pretty well with Spider-Man, and could work fine here too.
Funnily enough, since this version of Matt - should the MCU decide to take cues from the Netflix series - is not part of the MCU superhero loop, and could totally be written as believing that Spider-Man is a criminal until Peter proves otherwise.
With Mysterio's deathbed fuck you in FFH potentially causing trouble for Peter, you could have him end up in legal shenanigans where he ends up represented by an up and coming firm by the name of Murdock & Nelson.
The 90s animated Spidey took a similar tack and they were some of the best episodes of the show IMO
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."On the complete speculation track, Jacob Batalon
has cut down a lot of weight during the pandemic, and people are wondering if he's preparing to Hobgoblin (or Fake Hobgoblin, as it goes with Ned).
Disney says its ‘primary focus’ for entertainment is streaming — announces a major reorg
Expected sadly. I think we may soon be seeing cinema enter what happens to the drive In. A niche thing that people use occasionally.

No offense to the actor, but I'd rather have a Roderick Kingsley or even Jason Macendale.
Mainly because other than the character being called 'Ned' there's no reason for him to become a Hobgoblin, you'd have to contrive one. At no point in a previous movie we've been giving proper buildup or reasons of why this Ned would ever put on a freakish costume, hop onto a glider and start throwing bombs at Peter.
That may bite them in the butt internationally. Not all of the world is financially ready to take streaming as a sudden, viable way of mass entertainment distribution. At the very least, the breach between 'rich' and 'poor' societies regarding legal access to entertainment will widen a lot.

If you know the history of the character, Ned doesn't become the Hobgoblin. Roderick Kingsley uses him as a patsy to deflect attention away from himself.
So there's no reason to think Ned being involved in a Hobgoblin plot means that Kingsley wouldn't be.

Even so, why to use Ned of all people? With the original Ned there was a reason, he at least was a grown man, and IIRC one with valuable access to information as a reporter himself, this Ned's just a kid. You could play the card of 'he's close and dear to Peter, to strike at him where it hurts most', but then you might as well just use Happy, a teacher, another classmate, even Aunt May. Great, now I want Marissa Tomei in Goblin garb for some reason.
Even so, just choosing someone who's dear and close to Peter rather than a better qualified candidate implies an amount of It's Personal bile. You'd need buildup for the mastermind to accumulate enough resentment to go that far instead of just dropping a fit strong guy like Gargan for the same purposes.

Ned is Peter's man in the chair, and has more a more close logistical connection with Spidey than anybody but maybe Michelle (depending on her new role in the dynamic in the next movie). In addition, if he uses Ned vs another character, depending on how well known they choose to have his connection to Spidey be in the next plot he could also frame Spidey as well.
But that's just off the top of my head. Ultimately the reasoning for it would be up to the writer - they could also just not do any of that and invent a reason wholesale for the purposes of the plot, like Ned stumbles across Kingsley's operation gets nabbed or something like that, or really anything.
The real reason it's possible we're going to see it is the writers going "this was a cool plot, let's adapt it" as they typically do, especially since it's somewhat of a popular fan suggestion. Making it work tailored to the MCU is what brainstorming and the actual writing process is for.

Might be a thing where Ned makes up the hobgoblin identity to join the pack of costumed peeps hunting peter to fish for information
Feels like a stretch really and I doubt hobgoblin fans want that kind of first movie appearance for their boy hobby
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMovie Ned becoming Hobgoblin would be just as forced as Comics Hellcat pulling a Face–Heel Turn.
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianAgain, the Hobgoblin would still be Kinglsey. Ned as Hobgoblin is and always has been a case of a Frame-Up.
I want to see Kingsley as the hobgoblin though. A slick Magnificent Bastard who rose form fashion designer to supervillain mastermind.

It doesn't really matter, because from everything I've heard, Inhumans feels like its own Bottle Episode, safely quarantined away from anything else that happens in the MCU, both TV-side or film-side.
