Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Kurse's actor would later play Killer Croc and ya know, I can't help but feel a little bad for him.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)I rather like The Dark World. Sure, it does not have the most memorable MCU villain by far (which is a shame, because I was getting a kick from seeing the Doctor try to destroy the universe, starting with London), but it manages an overall good balance between goofiness, action scenes, fantasy and character development (mostly on Loki's part, though). It helps that I'm apparently one of the few people who finds Darcy funny.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.From what I've heard, Loki was originally going to be Killed Off for Real. However, when they held test screenings, a lot of audience members didn't buy it and thought Loki was faking his death. So they decided to do some reshoots where Loki does survive.
I remember thinking they did kill him off for real when I first watched the film, but that was because I accidentally looked at a spoiler on the site and stopped right where it said Loki "died".
I think afterwards they relased that anything they came up about why hes still alive would be a Vodoo Shark so just elected not to say anything.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I think the reason Kurse being wasted bugs me so much, is because if they had actually adapted him well it would've been the perfect thing to make Malekith's whole story would have been a lot better, and might not have taken that much to do.
Malekith is shown in the movie to be so obsessed with winning that he would wipe out his entire race just for the slightest, most petty chance of victory. In the comics, Kurse was Malekith's most loyal minion until he realized that Malekith would sacrifice him and anyone else for his selfish goals, and rebelled against him, and it almost feels like that moment was intended to happen in the film, until it didn't. A plot point like that - with the Dark Elves being unsatisfied with the way Malekith treats them and some turning against him - would've added a few layers to Malekith's story to make him more engaging, as apposed to just being "I hate light, die."
It's oddly dancelike and Narmful for it. It feels extremely artificial.
So Selvig is up there with Carol, Wanda and Goose, then.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Also for years, Thor: The Dark World had the biggest stakes out of any of the MCU films since the entire universe was at stake. I don't think it was until Doctor Strange that there was another universal-level threat.
Guardians of the Galaxy was close, too, but at least universal destruction was not an immediate threat there.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.One of my problems with TDW is that even though it technically had such high stakes, it had a hard time conveying it so that it felt that way. It's the most Monster of the Week film of the bunch.
The worst MCU film is The Incredible Hulk for me, but the Dark World and Iron Man 3 are up there.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The worst would be Age of Ultron for me. On my latest MCU binge it was the only movie where I felt constantly bored and waiting for something to happen. Which is curious, because I had found it more interesting on my previous reviewing.
I'm apparently also in the minority for whom Iron Man 3 is one of the favourite MCU movies.

....DESTROY THIS MAN!!!!
Getting serious, I like both The Dark World and Age of Ultron. I've heard the issues people have with both, (the dislike of Tony's Prima Nocta line, the Widow/Banner relationship, and then he claiming she's a monster because she can't have kids, and Ultron not being enough of a threat), and while I get why people feel that way (we could have done without the widow line), I still enjoyed it greatly.
Iron Man 3 is the closest thing to a bad movie for me, and even that has things I like (Tony basically proves why he's Iron Man, despite spending the bulk of the film without his suit).
So yeah, TDW/AOU good, IM 3 lacking.
Inhumans, a sin against god.
One Strip! One Strip! My big unpopular opinion is that AOU is better than Avengers 2012. I have yet to find anyone who agrees with me, and I don't think I ever will.
As for the movie I consider the weakest, I'd have to say Iron Man 2. It's a big mess of attempting to micromanage Tony Stark's character arc to get him where he needs to be for Avengers 2012 (which ended up being pretty unnecessary anyways), it involves a bureaucracy plot and a PG13 alcoholism metaphor that don't really mesh well with each other IMO, it has a pretty weak villain, and it's the only early MCU movie where I felt the "they spend too much time shoehorning plot setup for later movies" critique had some merit.

What the heck is a Kurse?
