Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I mean, if we want to get technical, Black Panther was introduced as an enemy to the Fanstastic Four at first.
I mean, the end of the issue showed that he really meant no harm and they teamed up in time for the next issue, but still.
It sounds like Jane Foster having cancer during her stint as Thor is being kept for Love and Thunder
, based on Portman’s recent interview.
Benedict Cumberbatch will be appearing as Doctor Strange in Spider-Man 3!
Calling it now, there will be a scene where Stephen disses Mysterio and calls him a charlatan. (Doesn't matter if Quentin's dead or not.)

Huh. Considering Strange is the other major Lee/Dikto creation, it is fitting that he'll appear in Spider-Man 3. Maybe we'll see something like Strange feeling guilty about Tony's death and him trying to help Peter as a way to atone?
Maybe the third Spider-Man film will feature multiverse hopping shenanigans, explaining why Jamie Foxx is returning as Electro. We'll this lead into a live-action Spider-Verse with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield?
~I dunno, we'll see~
Strange and Peter have worked together quite a few times haven't they?
Then again, Peter's worked with damn near everybody. Hell, that was the premise of Marvel Team Up, since he was one of the stars originally.
One Strip! One Strip!I've also seen at least one person worried this might go down One More Day route, with an attempt to use magic to backtrack on the ending to Far From Home.
I'm very skeptical that they'll go in that direction, but we'll see what direction they're going once a trailer drops.
Predictably, this just enflames everyone's theory that this is going to be a live action Spider-Verse movie.
Specifically, Dr. Strange was the first character Spider-Man ever crossed over with. I've been wanting a Dr. Strange / Spidey movie for ages.

Fairy Oddparents had Doctor Crocktopus, Master of the Mystic Arts. Maybe he's the one showing up.

It's not like Spider needs a cosmic retcon, he just needs the Skrulls to use their powers to "prove" that Peter Parker is not Spider-man.
Of course Spider-man would still be a wanted criminal, but at least Peter would be free.

Spider-Man's legal problems might not be too serious at all since it's likely that Nick Fury (whether it be Talos as Nick Fury or genuine Nick Fury) might be able to testify to Spider-Man's innocence and to Mysterio's guilt.
The problem Spider-Man will have to face is that not everyone is going to believe the official line once the accusation is out there.
I don't see it needing to be retconned for three reasons:
-It wouldn't be too difficult for Spiderman to prove his innocence conventionally, and that would make for a cool plot anyways.
-Spiderman is usually a Hero with Bad Publicity anyways in most adaptions. I feel like the twist was put there to create that exact status quo. Though admittedly, a murder charge is pretty extreme.
-They already did something similar with Endgame.
Leviticus 19:34One of the problems Peter always faces in proving his innocence of various charges is that defending himself in a legal sense would require revealing his secret identity. In an early comic, he couldn't cash a check made out to "Spider-Man" because that's not a legal person.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

And they've never really been clean before, at best they fall under Values Dissonance.
