Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

With regards to Quicksilver, do we actually know if he was killed off because of the Fox-Men? Like, have Whedon and/or Feige made public statements to that effet? Because I think it's more easily explained by Whedon wanting to have a twist, where he telegraphs Hawkeye as dying but then it turns out someone else dies, and Quicksilver made a convinet candidate since no one was particularly interested in using him as a character.
This reminds me I was apparently the only idiot among all the people I talked to about AoU who actually thought that Clint would be the one to bite it.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Yeah. I mean, the sudden family, the getting injured early, the snark about how he's useless compared to everyone else, lots of death flags.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr
My face and my palm are having a long meeting on that one.
And yeah, Hawkeye dying was telegraphed something fierce.
One Strip! One Strip!I wanted Hakweye to die in the Infinity Duology. I had in my mind's eye seen a scene where a energy blast sears Clint's eyes during the climax and Clint has to ace a shot against Thanos while being completely blind. He does and causes something plot relevant (like taking the glove out of his hands or something). Then he cracks a defiant grin as Thanos inevitably vaporizes him.
Alas it was not meant to be.

That's why I try avoiding as best as possible any information about which character is going to appear in future movies. Although, of course, there was a Black Widow movie announced after Endgame...
Unless I'm forgetting a glaring example, I don't think we've had a lot of that so far with dead characters in the MCU.
There were flashbacks, I believe the biggest examples were in Ao U. No explicitly supernatural stuff like ghosts though.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrAo S had the supernatural and ghost. And yeah Thats about it.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI dunno. That almost entirety of his characterization for Hawkeye was "death flags! Lol, psyche!" and/or "isn't it stupid that this character is here?" did not do the character's public perception any favors, and is one of the things I point to for why Ultron's characters writing was subpar. Not to mention that it basically reduces Quicksilver to the punchline of a joke you're only going to get if you're Genre Savvy.
The MCU is no stranger to flasbacks where they bring back actors from past movies, so yeah, a character showing up in a later movie is not a total guarrantee that they can't die before then.
Personally, I never for a second thought Clint was going to die because it was way too telegraphed. But I WASN'T expecting Pietro to buy the bullet for him. So I was genuinely caught off guard.
I really wish the sequels could've payed better respect to the character afterwards (I understand why they couldn't). Hopefully something can come out of Wandavision (hell, he could even be mentioned in Hawkeye).
He made a name in shocking everyone with surprisingly killing the adorable comic relief to the point that everyone started to expect it from him and now the ploy is old.
There wasn't any reason for Quicksilver to die besides a cheap "surprise!" It came too late to matter.

I liked the scene in AOU where he tried to grab Mjolnir
Good stuff
