Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah what does that have to do with Superman?
Those aren't exclusive to Superman. Thor also has those elements.
That is a specific reference to a scene in Superman: The Movie, except Clark Kent is saving Lois from a mugger.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

The "stopping the bullet in an alleyway" scene happened in the first Superman Donner movie. The only difference is that Clark actually catches the bullet instead of deflecting it (oh, and Lois does not realise what he did and thinks stupid Clark simply fainted, as always).

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.I don't agree that the WW movie was a gender-flipped SM movie, but this scene in particular was a direct homage to a catch-a-bullet-in-an-alley scene in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies.
EDIT: Wow I am slow but I'll make up for it by posting the clip

Having two movies with the exact same premise happening at the same time is not your typical business decision, since that's just asking for one to take attention away from the other, and you get more appeal by spreading your net wide. If someone's going to make that mistake, let your competitors do it. Even if Marvel Studios wanted to do it (which I don't think is too likely), Sony especially would probably want to put the kibosh on it.
This also applies to tv and such. It's why, for instance, everyone who thought they would be bringing back Teen Titans 2003 while Young Justice is still ongoing were barking up the wrong tree.

I'm all up for Foxx being given a chance with a better script, but if they're ever doing the Sinister Six they need a Doctor Octopus or Norman Osborn calling the shots. Simply tossing Electro, Morbius, Vulture, Scorpion, Prowler and Mysterio or Shocker together is unlikely to work because none of those characters cut it as strong enough leader figures.
Vulture is a better Sinister Six boss figure than Norman if you ask me. Vulture was a founding member of the Six after all.
The guy we're missing though is Kraven. Him and Sandman are the only founding member not here, and Kraven's cinematic debut is long overdue.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I'd be down with an MCU Doc Ock.
The Sinister Six has always been more of an Ock thing than a Goblin thing, and... I dunno. Even knowing that none of the movies have really adapted a comics-style Norman the same way the MCU definitely would, but... I dunno. I'd be fine with Norman taking a backseat for a while, or maybe being saved for a Dark Reign film.
Based on what we could find on SM3 and assuming the Sinister Six really do assemble in that movie, we got this hypothetical roster for them:
- Possible Roster 1:
- Vulture
- Shocker
- Scorpion
- Mysterio
- Electro
- Kraven
But! Assuming Mysterio is gone for good after FFH and Sony wants some tie-in to their quasi-canon SUMC, then we have this:
- Possible Roster 2:
- Vulture
- Shocker
- Scorpion
- Venom (or Morbius)
- Electro
- Kraven
Granted, Morbius was never really an S6 member, but the fifth incarnation of the team actually had Venom as a member, so there's precedent for him to be a member should Mysterio truly be out of the picture.
That said, Venom in his 2018 movie doubled down on him being more hero than "anti-hero", so unless he somehow gets convinced that Spidey is a terrorist, the first roster might be more plausible.
Also, it's entirely possible that Foxx is just playing a rebooted Electro, not the one from ASM2, like how J.K. Simmons played a rebooted Jameson in FFH. Yeah, the fact that SM3 is planned for release between WV and MoM makes the theory fun to think of, but we might be overwhelming ourselves with it.
Yeah, I have no issue with the Electro return, but I assume it's just a new version and not somehow the old one returning.
Sinister Six is looking increasingly likely. It'd probably be simpler if they leave the SUMC out of it though. If Sinister Six is the entire plot of a movie, they could also maybe introduce a new villain in that movie; just justify it with them making a bit of a name for themselves off-screen between movies but not clashing with any big heroes yet. And/or maybe another customer of Vulture/Tinkerer. Clearly there is only one obvious option.
Multiverse Sinister Six incoming.
Also worth noting in those leaked Sony emails from 2014, Feige apparently liked Foxx as Electro and felt the writing and direction ultimately let the character down. He specifically said he felt the character started off sympathetic and then later scenes made him too creepy and stalkerish. So maybe he wanted to give him a second shot.

IIRC the Noodle Incident that forced Brock move from New York to San Francisco even before the events of Venom was never specified upon, so if they want to retcon some involvement of Spider-Man into those events of Eddie's backstory, I suppose they could do it. Like, this Brock might not be obsessed with Peter but still might have a reason to dislike and distrust him.
What about Prowler and Chameleon, who were set up in the previous two films?

@ AmazingSpiderHam: That's good, I really like that.
@ PushoverMediaCritic: Shoot, I actually forgot about those two... I guess if Kraven can't happen, then Prowler could work too. I'm not sure how to squeeze Chameleon in, though.
Dang it, I also forgot Doc Ock. Yeah, I wouldn't know how to squeeze him in either.
EDIT: Ha, apparently Jamie Foxx might have teased about this
all the way back in July...

Between Scorpion in Homecoming (and JJJ providing the perfect set-up for him), Chameleon in Far From Home, Prowler in Homecoming, and now Electro, I'm betting that we are going to get Sinister Six as the 3rd MCU Spider-Man film.
