Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If they do do a ghost rider thing I hope Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes is the lead but I won’t say no to Keanu as Johnny Blaze in such a project
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAlternatively, they could bring Nicolas Cage back as Johnny Blaze and claim the previous Ghost Rider films happened in Broad Strokes.
I like the idea of multiple Ghost Riders in a movie or show.
Regarding Moon Knight, I guess I can see Reeves, but in terms of him being Jewish, I really do hope that aspect is kept. Ditto other canonically Jewish characters should they appear (i.e. Kasper Cole, Hulkling, Kitty Pryde, Magneto, Songbird, and Ben Grimm).
Being Jewish myself, I'd like to see some representation. At least in terms of characterization. I'm not really picky in terms of the actor's religion.
At some point I came across a suggestion of Adam Driver for Moon Knight, which I like. I know he played a Jewish character in Black Klansman and I think has in something else too. And Driver has this kind of "thing" of looking heroic but with a certain "weirdness", which is basically why he was cast as Kylo Ren. And that definitely fits with Moon Knight as well.
Semi-OT, but either Moonknight and/or Cole really needs to have a scene where someone makes fun of their costume totally lacking in camouflage, and they reply something like "I want them to see me." Which I'm 99% sure is an actual Moon Knight quote in some form.

And one could count Marriage Story, with the interpretation of his character being a stand-in for Noah Baumbach.
Reading the actual source, it's pretty deceitful. The Illuminerdi speculates that is going to be Keanu since the casting description fits him and is well known that there were previous talks between Reeves and Marvel (he was originally courted to play Yon-Rogg). It explicitly states that there are no talks between them to play MK, but that Marvel does have him in mind to play a role in the MCU.
What surprises me more is the description saying they're looking for a male in his 40-50's. I expected someone in his mid-30's, early 40's at best.
Explicitly the caharcter being a older hero? Well, there's Batman too, both in Rises and Snyder's take.
There plenty of actors in their 40-50's playing characters much younger characters (Paul Rudd is 51, was 45 in Ant-Man).
I remember at first I didn't like Ben Affleck just because of his age.
I was not convinced that the "new" Batman was older than the "Old"
Speaking of Ghost Rider, assuming it shares continuity with the series, Johnny must be old enough to have been an adult when he shared the curse on Robbie.

Paul Rudd is famous for being Younger Than They Look in general, which is why he can easily pass as a father of a young child.

Somewhat Marvel related:
Apparently Disney has moved their next D23 Expo to September 9-11, 2022.
I almost thought it'd be an online expo so they can counter the DC FanDome event, but...okay.
In terms of the films I think only Spider-Man and Doctor Strange are currently based in New York City itself since the Avengers moved upstate.
Doctor Strange obviously doesn't deal with crime in the conventional sensenote , and Spider-Man isn't going to stop crime all by himself in a city the size of NYC.
The Netflix heroes change the equation somewhat if we include them, but again New York City is a massive city. Well under a dozen street level heroes can only cover so much ground in a city with 20 million people in the metropolitan area.
Even in the comics there are very few "street-level" heroes. There's Spidey, Daredevil (and he operates almost entirely in Hell's Kitchen), the Heroes for Hire like Power-Man...I hesitate to count the Punisher since he's not really a "hero".

Disgusted, but not surprised![]()

Also, we may need to keep in mind that the Netflix shows are kinda not really regarded as strict canon at this point?
Mostly because those were from Jeph Loeb and I think Feige would rather jump rope with his legs tied up and his eyes blindfolded than to weave anything by Loeb into the more important side of the MCU.

The joke is Keanu Reeves might be a Vampire, but he never played one to my knowledge. He did play Jonathan Harker (so, Dracula's enemy) in Coppola's Dracula.
Blade's rogues gallery basically amounts to: Dracula and Deacon Frost. Reeves could play either with some grace but honestly, just have him play Johnny Blaze for God's sake. It even fits like a glove with Reeves's affection for motorcycles.
