Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

They should read up on some Roman court politics nonsense and done I, Maximus or something
Instead of the weird thing they did do
Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()

That would be awesome, but I hope it won't be called "Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD" as a large middle finger to AoS fans.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.I'm pretty sure down the road well see an eventual discontinuity nod to agents of shield in the films /new shows. With Disney trying to tie their shows to their films more and agents is uh....weird discontinuity
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Finally, Nick Fury can kick ass instead of being a glorified side character.
Still annoyed he didn't have a laser eye from his eyepatch. XD.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"From what I've been reading, while Fury is the lead, this show might be more about S.W.O.R.D. than anything. Probably to fill in some blanks regarding the Skrulls in case Captain Marvel 2 ends up being Secret Invasion.
Might it be called Agents of S.W.O.R.D.? Or would that be too on the nose?
I still wonder if MCU!S.W.O.R.D. will operate via two separate brigades: one for Earth to pretty much be S.H.I.E.L.D. 2.0 minus the HYDRA moles and a space one to gather allies for a new big bad.
(Side note: I'm still really stoked that we're getting S.W.O.R.D. at all since Fox had been sitting on its film license for 20 years.)
@Targetmaster Joe - My serious speculation is pretty much that. Might be a good way to introduce more info about Monica Rambeau.
Also, in terms of Skrulls, I kind of wonder if the MCU will ever introduce the Superman parody Ethan Edwards
. I can see how he might feel duplicative if Hulkling (who I'd be more interested in seeing) is set of appear, but I can kind of envision a less satirical take on Ethan, where he's a Patrick Warburton "annoyingly perfect/ annoyingly vanilla" type, but not morally warped the way Edwards is in the comics.
I can kind of see him being a very "All American" SHIELD or SWORD agent who hides the fact that he's a Skrull. Or else, I could see him appearing on She Hulk or some other show which has civilian characters, and keeping the aspect of him Clark Kenting very unconvincingly, but again, have him hide the fact that he's a Skrull.
Defenders... is flawed. The main villain What-A-Waste-Of-Sigourney Weaver isn't very good, the plot that they built up over the course of Daredevil and Iron Fist fails to live up to the buildup, and the series finale paints the writers into a corner where their only escape is to break characterization ("Hey, let's all suspend our no-kill rule for this one special exception and 9/11 a building full of ninjas so that we can actually end this story. Then we'll all go back to our own shows and talk about how we never kill people.")
On the positive side, the actual titular team interacting is pretty damn great in the same way Avengers was, and the fight scenes are good. It's a good popcorn-munching show, at least, and delivers on the crossover element even if it trips up on the culmination-of-a-plotline element.
Iron Fist season 2 is unironically good and one of the best entries in the Netflix catalogue though. People who enjoyed/tolerated season 1 will like it because it's improved in every single way. People who hated season 1 will like it because Danny suffers a lot. It has something for everyone!
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!IF was released during The Defender's production and they stand by they didn't alter anything, which seems to be the case. He gets a reasonably fair shake in the Defenders, though possibly unintentionally: He argues from day one the protagonists should just fight the Hand head-on but Matt, Luke and Jessica all stand by that they need to find other ways to beat them (with that trio operating as if they're fighting the complex sociopolitical issues they fight on their home shows rather than just some eldritch ninjas). Danny turns out to be entirely correct in this assessment as the reluctance of the others in fighting the Hand head-on directly causes Stick's death, Danny's capture and the near destruction of New York, with the day being saved when the other three take his advice and go for broke against the Hand.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The news about the Nick Fury show is amazing and unexpected. I had figured he was taking more and more passive roles in things because he was getting up there in years, but taking point on a show that's going to have to have actionized parts would seem he's still got it.
If the MCU hadn't wasted Strucker, I would totally want Strucker to be the Big Bad of the series. I've always perceived Baron Strucker as Nick Fury's Evil Counterpart and archenemy.

I've always stood by they should just be absolutely shameless and introduce a more canon-like Strucker as the father or grandfather of the AOU Strucker we know and don't even remember.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The latest rumour mill is Keanu Reeves is being pondered to play Moon Knight.
As always, enough salt to preserve a thousand meats here, but the idea felt interesting enough to post here. It is however curious that Keanu Reeves is basically every ethnicity on the planet (being of Aboriginal Hawaiian, English, Irish, Chinese and Portuguese descent) except the ones Marc Specter is/should be (that is, canonically Jewish and should be African if you want to downplay the Mighty Whitey aspects).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

It's a shame as the cast did seem like they were trying but it was ruined by the shitty writing plus weird designated hero / designated villain thing going on.
