Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That’s the perils of an ongoing comic with a concept like Mjolnir
Having a character lift it is a quick and easy narrative tool to establish someone is pretty great or for a shock factor
Forever liveblogging the AvengersShe wasn't worthy at first, it was only after she used her last bullet to save some fleeing civilians instead of herself did Mjolnir deem her worthy.
And Thor was dead in that universe.
Anyway, Mjolnir has always been picky and it who it deems worthy isn't a constant thing.

You'd think that since now Thor is the Allfather he'd just do away with the enchantment & just lock the hammer's power onto himself & whomever he deems qualified.
Or just take back his power completely so he is no longer vulnerable if it deems him unworthy though thats only if the hammer is the source of his power & not just an extension of it which can be inconsistent.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Odin became unable to pick it up during the Jane Foster stuff. I think the idea is that Mjolnir has outgrown its programming.
Also, with the whole Gorr stuff it was more that Thor was up in his own head too much about What If? Gorr was right then Mjolnir being like 'i don't like you anymore'
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think Thor keeps the enchantment to keep himself from straying off the path.
Nothing quite tells you you're becoming a dick like when you're own weapon tells you to !@#$% off.
One Strip! One Strip!Speaking of ludicrously powerful heroes, anyone else want to see a Captain Universe story in the MCU?
They could set it up as like a mystery / sci-fi story, with someone investigating "something otherworldy is possessing people," which leads to "records of a powerful being that match this phenomenon appear throughout history" and eventually make this character wonder whether this otherworldly force is benevolent or not, and ending with the protag trusting and giving into the Captain Universe essence and bonding with them to save the day - before it leaves to do good elsewhere.
Meanwhile the villains are also investigating the force to contain it and utilize it themselves, etc. You could even have the protag work for them before realizing the essence isn't evil and shouldn't be contained.

Oh, I get the title now!
It's Wanda's vision! But also we are watching a television!
We are watching Wanda Vision!
It's also a Portmanteau Couple Name.
I actually missed that first point, and only kinda barely considered the second one.
One Strip! One Strip!Crossposted from the live action tv thread, but that bit with the frozen woman in the middle makes me suspect the plot is going to be Wanda basically lost her grip on reality and created a fantasy world, with Vision a character in the world. Vision discovers that he's a figment of Wanda's imagination, and the tearjerking ending it going to involve Vision having to convince Wanda to destroy the fantasy for the sake of herself and others - especially if regular people are getting stuck in the fantasy world a la the frozen woman.
The theory I'm seeing based on several shots is that Wanda's created a "bubble world" where she has a living husband and family, based on sitcoms. Real people can go in and out of the bubble, but when they enter they get turned into a "sitcom role". And it appears special agents are holding a perimeter around the bubble (SWORD?)

The trailer looks interesting, surprisingly. The overall theme of "leave behind comfy virtual/fake world for real world via realization that the fake world isn't healthy" is similar to the theme of Ready Player One (and the book it was based on), but the sitcom-style take is novel enough to pique my interest.
I really thought Wanda was underexplored in the MCU, and combined with the iffy writing of Ao U she left a bad first impression. Hope that this series can fix that somewhat.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr
