Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Things must have really taken a sudden turn for the worst if it caught him off guard this badly.
If he really only realized he wasn't going to beat it only a week before his death, then something must have seriously gone wrong at the last moment.
One Strip! One Strip!I had a conversation with someone who pointed out that while he may not have had COVID himself, the current situation could have affected his ability to coordinate with doctors, keep regular treatments and regimens, etc, which might have contributed to the downturn.
Which... well... sucks.

Man, 2020 really sucks. And to think Boseman was one year younger than me...
I had occasionally wondered what would happen if one of the Avengers stars were to meet some kind of accident (say, if Robert Downey Jr had a car crash right before filming Endgame), and I don't think it is possible for the filmmakers to seriously plan for such an eventuality. And it is even harder with someone like Boseman and the impact Black Panther had.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.I do believe that SOMEBODY at Marvel/Disney knew about the cancer, as morbid as it is insurance policies are taken out on stars just in case they die in production and they end up scrapping/re-working/re-shooting the film, the payout is to help defray the costs of said re-working or to negate part of the loss if they have to cancel the film.
IIRC Disney/Lucasfilm did get some sort of payout when Carrie Fisher passed and that was out of the blue.
Since physical exams are sometimes needed to get the policies and the cancer would have been noted, if not disclosed directly. Now how far down the chain the news would have gotten is entirely up in the air. And yes somebody responding well to treatments can go south in a huge hurry. A close friend had cancer and one week he was okay but not great, the next he was in the hospital and shortly after he got home he was gone.

Yeah, but like Shadow said, her death did require huge changes to a movie. If it makes you feel better, in pure money I doubt the insurance payout was a profit for them. It just helped defray the costs of reworking everything. Not to mention the emotional cost; as I understand it, everyone loved her.
Life insurance always feels a little skeevy because you're planning for someone's death, but it is genuinely important. It's better than them dying and their family/friends/employers having to deal with that in addition to not having the money to help.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.![]()
I'm actually rather conflicted... I mean, on paper, it does sound scummy to get money when someone passes on, but then life insurance is a thing, sooo...
Oh hey! The Hollywood Reporter talks about
Chloe Zhao and Eternals!
Kevin Feige citing One-Punch Man? Interesting choice of anime there... (not that I'm complaining.
)
I think Marvel has the rights for the Externals back but why would they want them
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

At least they'll have other movies and show that will give them Time for what decision they should make.
