Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

There's been several other celebrity deaths this year that upset me quite a lot, but usually they were known to have some kind of health condition they were dealing with, or were 50+ and thus at the age where the chances of something terrible happening become a lot higher.
This is the first one to catch me completely off guard with how shocking and unfair it is.
I think I've gotten progressively less rattled by celebrity deaths as the years have gone on but damn, this and Neil Peart really stung. Like obviously I love Rush and the MCU but it's the circumstances around their passings that make it significantly worse. They didn't deserve to go out like this. They just didn't.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Just told my mom about it. She couldn't believe it either.
She's a yogi and swami, so she's less panicky about mortality and more "death happens to everyone, what can we do about it?" Her parents also had cancer, albeit the breast and lung kind. (They passed from heart failure, but the fact that they had cancer makes this sting ever so harshly. Cancer is the absolute worst thing in the universe.)
She heavily suggests I pray for good health... but I'm just too depressed. ![]()

But then, I guess we're all too depressed right now. ![]()

...Damn, this was one hell of a punch to the face.
RIP Chadwick Boseman and my condolences to his family and loved ones.
I assure you, I'm perfectly trustable person
Wakanda whatever.
But seriously though, he was proud to be Black Panther so i think they will.
It's Michael B Jordan who really didn't like doing it, because his character actually hated Wakanda, and being asked to do it meant they missed the point.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"![]()
I actually wouldn't mind if they did it.
You know, I didn't really think too much about BP at first. When they announced he'd be appearing in Civil War, I was like "oh hey, that's a really cool hero, right?"
But then, Civil War happened and man, Chadwick just blew me away. He made me CARE about T'Challa. And there was just something about how T'Challa confronted Zemo. Normally, the bad guy gets defeated by punching him or outsmarting him a lot, but T'Challa and Zemo just talk. And just when Zemo was about to take himself out of the equation, T'Challa stops him, saying "the living are not done with you."
That and "Let them try" made me realize I HAD to watch Black Panther. I HAD to.

I read some of the more well-regarded Black Panther comics before the film, and his similarities to Batman as The Chessmaster could be quite entertaining. Shame we won't be able to watch that development unfold onscreen.
As people have pointed out it's possible in hindsight that a lot of his annoyance at the Wakanda salute might've just been physical weariness as the cancer and its treatments began taking their toll.

ABC will be screening Black Panther tonight
, followed by an ABC News tribute special on Chadwick.
Having heard about Claire Voyant
, how do you suppose she will fit into the MCU?

Yeah, I'm not thinking about recastings right now.
