Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Dear God. Black Panther was one of the few MCU films I've actually seen.
When my family gets streaming for Netflix the first movie I'll watch is Da 5 Bloods just to see his (maybe) final performance. Don't know if he has films that haven't been released yet.
“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” - Lewis Carroll
Rumor has it that he lend his voice in a What-If episode for that future animated Marvel Series.
Chadwick Boseman, I can't imagine what were his thoughts when he was battling this cancer. Everyone expects him to be the new star of the MCU, the new Captain America or Iron Man to lead a new generation of Avengers, unaware of his condition. But he must have known he may not live to see that future since his debut as Black Panther in MCU, so I wonder if he was prepared to pass the torch just in case.
Either way, he fought on till the Endgame and his character earned his happy ending there.
Rest in Peace, T'challa.

So now i wonder how Disney will handle Black Panther moving forward. Or if somehow Chadwick Boseman filmed his scenes.
Yeah, i think Chadwick did have discussions with Ryan Coogler over his condition and what will happen to future movies.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Doubtful. BP 2 wasn't in the next phase lineup last i remember and this might have been why.
I'd personally pass the mantle to Shuri. She's the character I could see easiest to slide into the role without disrupting possible plans they already had and still having a new character to build off of in this now leading role.
BP had a good support cast but I can't think of others to so easily fill the gap. Especially since, isn't it also a bloodline thing too?
Unless they simply recast him? The Character Died With Him is a trope for a reason but recasting is at least an option and one MCU has done before, if just not from a death as far as I know.

I think they'd just make it a solo Shuri movie till they come up with a plan for what to do with T'Challa. I don't think they'll kill him off-screen. Like have T'Challa conveniently off-camera for the entire duration for now.
What happened during her run anyway?

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther/T'Challa. And Kevin Feige would know the Unfortunate Implication in light of the War Machine recast debacle with the whole "Black Actors all look the same" BS from Ike Perlmutter.
The only way for T'Challa to be recast is if Boseman handpicked his successor before his death. And even that would be contentious among fans.

If they're going to transition to a new lead, Shuri is the best bet.
The problem is getting there without a Bus Crash.
I made a conscious decision to cease posting in this thread after endgame so I could take a break from the MCU, but after hearing about this shocking and upsetting development I couldn't help joining in the chorus of blessings for Boseman's family. They had to keep this in mind for years, so my heart well and truly goes out to them.
I really am hoping they don't re-cast the role, as I'm generally not a fan of The Other Darrin trope. Yes, the MCU has done it twice with Mark Ruffalo and Don Cheadle, but to me it's very hit-or-miss. It's especially glaring if the different actors' styles are very different, and since we're talking about movies with a shared universe, it's incredibly jarring.
All that said, RIP Chadwick Boseman.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book! The only reason they were able to get away with Mark Ruffalo and Don Cheadle was because of Early-Installment Weirdness when the MCU was first being established. All the other cases of this were for minor characters or cameos. It's something that'd be impossible to get away with in the case of leading man T'Challa himself, and I doubt many in the audience would be willing to give Disney a pass for this if they tried to pull that off.
That was a real blow.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.

Hail to the king baby, hall to the motherfucking King.
