Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

...Jesus, what a tragedy. Not only was he a talented and fantastic actor and a great man, but this also means that one of the most iconic black heroes that he brought to life won't get the franchise future he deserves. Hearing about Boseman's respect for the digustingly under-respected African cultures that made him help shape the on-screen Wakanda was so inspirational...
Does anyone actually read these?Holy fuck. I had no idea at all.
I mean, he filmed from Civil War and Endgame all the while fighting the cancer? Goddamn, he's a full-blown superhuman!
Rest in piece, Boseman. May your legacy in MCU and life live on forever, just like Wakanda.
Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.![]()

Coogler and Feige would much rather leave the MCU than recast Black Panther.
Rushing to recast the character for a movie that doesn't come out for two years seems like a slap in the face towards Boseman's family.
Anyhow, I'm still saddened. This was just sudden and out of nowhere and I dunno what to think. RIP.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherHoly shit.
I just heard about this moments ago.
Four years. Holy shit. I never even knew he had health problems.
This is just a punch to the gut for far too many reasons.
2020 man. What are you doing to us?
But who's going to protect Wakanda after that? Retiring the character, while respectful, would be too soon since we've only seen the character in four MCU movies thus far.
Not to mention plot holes galore.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherFuck.
FUCK.
I doubt that.
I'm sure both would leave if forced to recast by executives or something, but not if forced to recast by life itself. There's nothing for them to fight against here by not recasting. It's just pure, awful happenstance.
They both know how much the character and the films mean to the audience that they are targeted towards. Black Panther is the only black-led and cultured superhero film series in existence, and T'Challa is one of the most visible characters for the African American audience to resonate with in the entirety of film right now. They're not going to cut the character or stop that for the sake of the actor, nor, would I imagine, would Boseman want them to.

If this was something he had been going through for 4 years, I definitely think he probably would have informed Coogler or Feige or somebody about it so they could plan for the worst.
... But Jesus my heart literally stopped when I heard the news. Fucking hell, man.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonAs with everyone else, I'm both extremely shocked (he did an excellent job of keeping it hidden from the prying press) and extremely sad and upset (Black Panther is my favorite MCU film and a big part of it is due to Boseman's performance and charisma, including his scenes with his father in Civil War).
Fuck 2020.

I don't post here anymore, but...fuck man. I don't even know what to say.
