Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Hela helmet
was an actual prop and not CGI to my surprise
I think the case was that there was a legitimate helmet with horns used for close-ups and the like, but it was too heavy and unwieldy for any kind of movement, so CGI was used whenever Hela had to fight or otherwise move around too much. This is a pretty standard tactic. E.G The Witch-King of Angmar's ridiculous mace also goes back and forth between being a prop and CGI (it's a prop whenever its standing mostly still, but its CGI when its being actually wielded because it was so heavy no human being could wield the damn thing)
Did the critics get advance screenings? I didn’t think the film was out yet.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr
From what I can tell, no. The critics were not given special advanced screenings
and had to attend public screenings in order to watch it. This actually caused a few publications to announce
they wouldn't be reviewing the film unless they were guaranteed a safe environment to watch it in.
From what few reviews have come out, the film isn't really that spectacular.
Ah. I haven't seen the film/read the comics it's based on, but I read the plot synopsis on the link and it sounds like a cool idea.
...Not going to a theater to see it, though, I agree with the critics there. It'll end up on Disney+ eventually, I presume.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrI don’t believe it’s actually coming out
Sure there are release dates and people reviewing it apparently but that’s circumstantial compared to how much it’s been delayed
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm more disturbed by the prop of Hela's head than I am intrigued by the horns.
Just finished Captain Marvel. A few stray observations:
- If Carol isn't wearing her space mask in the end, why was she wearing it before? Was she still technically in the atmosphere?
- I feel like too much of the movie was focused on setting up the more present-day movies. But we get young Nick Fury, so that's a plus.
- Young Coulson! Never thought I'd see the day, but I like seeing Coulson in any Marvel thing so I'm not complaining.
- Now I see why they kept Carol out of Infinity War/Endgame for the most part. Definite Story-Breaker Power. So cool to watch though.
- Is it me or does Carol sound a little weird in the post-credits scene?

So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrShe wore the space mask when she was still getting the hang of her powers in the climax. It appears during then or at the end is when she unlocked breathing in space.
Carol might've sounded weird in the stinger because Brie Larson was filming that scene against a green screen and wasn't with the Avengers actors. It was also shot before she started filming Captain Marvel.
So she can breathe in space? Rad.
Yeah, green-screen makes sense. I honestly should get around to watching Endgame sometime, watched Infinity War a few weeks ago but haven't had the time or motivation to follow up.
Speaking of Infinity War, the scenes at the end where people start getting dusted are really haunting. The way the dust just holds an impression of the person's face for a few seconds before dissipating... Chills. Also, the Peter scene really hit hard, which is surprising because I never watched Homecoming, only Civil War and Infinity War. I have some problems with Infinity War but dang if those scenes aren't amazing.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrMy biggest complaint is that they didn't license anything from Pearl Jam as a music cue. Here we got Nirvana, The Avengers had Soundgarden, and The Punisher had Alice in Chains. Why not complete the circle of grunge's big 4, eh.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)It always bothers me when people say "breathe in space" when they mean "don't need to breathe in space". They're not breathing, there's nothing to breathe, that's the problem with space. Characters who can live in space just don't need to breathe, period, and their bodies aren't affected by the vacuum of space in any other way.
Now, a character that actually CAN "breathe in space" would be something else entirely, because that would mean they can breathe space. As in, they breathe the very fabric of reality itself.
There actually isn't a good reason why they kept Carol out of Infinity War, unless somehow Cap and Natasha had no means of contacting Fury to keep him updated and see if he or Hill had any advice. They didn't know he'd have her in his back pocket, but they could've at least informed him in an "all hands on deck" sort of way.
There's no good reason Wong, Carol, and Okoye weren't in Endgame more, and especially no good reason that they weren't even informed of the Time Heist. Especially given Wong is the most knowledgeable living person on the ramifications of fucking with time that the MCU has.
Probably why they didn't invite him.
Dicking around in time is one of those things you'd expect him to try to stop.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersFor all my (justified) hatred of time travel in fiction, I kind of give a pass to the Time Heist in Endgame. Mainly because it gave us some of the funnier and heartwarming scenes in the MCU.
That and the time travel doesn't fix everything.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThats why I said you'd expect. From the surviving Avengers who don't know him very well.

I doubt whale populations were bouncing back after five years not to mention they’d be affected by the halfening too
More likely is that the sharp decrease in boat traffic is the cause
