Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The oops power makes you specifically evil Wanda thing is why I’m glad she isn’t magnetos daughter anymore
I wouldn’t mind if she was a mutant but I hope she and Pietro never get rererereretconned to be magnetos kids again

Forever liveblogging the AvengersIan McDiarmid in the MCU would be fantastic. But I definitely doubt they'd be willing to resist giving him an Actor Allusion and having him play what is effectively the Emperor.
If it wasn't for the fact that it would probably be an action-intensive role and McDiarmid is quite old, I wouldn't mind having him play DOOM.
So in other words, just making everything you use against him out of plastic, wood, or something non metallic (barring if such options are even viable) will only prevent him from snatching those things away from you, and won't stop him from throwing something else at you or just electro-zapping you then?
One Strip! One Strip!Have we ever seen them in the same room at the same time?
I guess in Secret Wars. Never mind.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI just finished making a rough timeline of the MCU because I wanted to be able to understand Avengers: Infinity War and explain it to the family. Probably got some things wrong, but this took me roughly two hours without all the Netflix series. Sure, all the interconnectedness is great for the universe and all because it makes it seem more realistic, but dang does the Continuity Lock-Out hit hard.
And no, I did not get into the time travel shenanigans in Avengers: Endgame, mostly because I don't think we're gonna get to it since we have limited time. I guess I'll call Timey-Wimey Ball when it becomes relevant.
On another note, I just realized that I really like the movies that focus on the intersection between superheroing and civilian life, like Thor or that one scene in Captain America: The First Avenger where Steve is out in modern New York. Also Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and The Incredible Hulk, which I have not watched but had to read recaps of for the list and now make me want to watch the movies.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrYeah, didn't The Incredible Hulk have licensing issues with Sony or something and that's why it's not on Disney ? Weird, but I don't understand corporate law or politics.
Honestly, as long as the Ant-Man movies don't have too many Bay-splosions at the final battle I'll be grateful. Most of the other movies in the franchise that I've watched suffer from that and that's part of the reason why they've started to bleed together in my head.
Except for Thor, because in spite of the Destroyer being a magic armor thingie that shoots lasers from its head, the pivotal moment of that scene is Thor telling Loki "you can kill me if you want but lay off the innocent mortals". I always liked that that moment (and possibly also him realizing he can't fight alongside Sif and the Warriors Three, and helping evacuate the civilians instead) was what made Thor worthy of Mjolnir.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrHuh, good to know.
Also, I finished watching Infinity War, and it was ...I'm not sure, actually. The move glosses over all the interesting things with a 2-year timeskip. Also, if Black Widow stopped pausing for one-liners Proxima Midnight and the non-telekinesis non-brute guy would have died a lot earlier. Heck, if everyone stopped pausing for one-liners the movie would have been a lot quicker. The world's facing a sudden disappearance of half the population, if the wisecracking wasn't killing the tension I would care more. Serious Hype Backlash on this for me, though I suppose it doesn't have much rewatch value after the big twist at the end.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrI was reading a livetweet of The Incredibles yesterday and the guy said that the "I wanted to go bowling" bit is now every line of every superhero movie.
Personally I think films like Thor Ragnarok can succeed at being mostly comedy while others like Black Panther can succeed with being mostly serious but Infinity War hit an awkward spot for me where it alternates too quickly between grim massacres and Children of Men homages to snarks about ice cream flavors and Squidward.

I think that problem has less to do with Infinity War being too funny and more to do with Infinity War having several plotlines with so little to do with each other that they don't transition between each other very well.
Okoye's snark is perfectly in tune with where the Captain America / Earth plot was at that point in time (when last we saw them, it was Rhodey's cool shutdown of Ross and the awkward scene of everyone meeting up again), but didn't line up with where the Guardians' plotline was (IE, at the culmination of a very dark series of events).

It was a plot point in Fatal Attractions that Magneto had received a power boost increasing his control over magnetism but that he was also losing himself in a straight up god complex. I feel like the more power he exerts, the more his mind goes.
