Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I don't know about that, if you are defeated by a wooden gun then you at least have been defeated by someone (or at least the work of someone) smart enough to construct a gun out of wood that doesn't simply explode in the hand of anyone who tries to pull the trigger.
And that's such an impressive feat of craftsmanship there's no shame in losing to it.
Though honestly it would be a lot easier for someone to just go full caveman and make a wooden bow and some arrows with flint heads. Magneto's powers would be worthless against such a weapon.

You don't need to fire a gun made of wood, just point it at Magneto and convince him his powers no longer work. Then he'll peacefully surrender and even after learning of the deception, gracefully accept being put into a metal police car by officers with metal guns and badges to be driven off to a metal prison and be put behind metal bars.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'm pretty sure his electromagnetic forcefields would still stop those arrows.
True, he has to know they're there, but still.
Plus they'd still need to aim for the face or neck, because he wears body armour most of the time.
One Strip! One Strip!Inb 4 the MCU has guns made of solid stone.
It occurs to me that Killer Croc could beat Magneto by hitting him with a rock.

That's how Squirrel Girl...... 's evil twin beat him.
Dropped the Thing on him.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMagneto in Apocalypse (say what you will about that movie) finally came closer to his comic books self in terms of power.
Dude doesn't just control metal, he has power over the entire magnetic field. He can manipulate energy on a molecular level.
Plastic and wood ain't gonna do shit to stop him.

The "iron in the blood" thing is a myth. We don't have elemental iron floating around; it's all bound up with other molecules. If someone injected iron directly into your blood (hypothetically), at best the body would filter it out and at worst it would poison you. TL;DR: the human body is not magnetic.
If you have the ability to interact with the magnetic properties of individual atoms or electrons regardless of whether they are in compounds, then you're so godlike that calling your powers "magnetism" is kind of missing the point.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
There was a point in time were one of Magneto's abilities was to have a "magnetic attraction". That is, his magnetism powers let him brainwash someone and take control of their minds.
So being a blood bender isn't that much of a stretch when you consider that his magnetism let him take control of someone.
To put it easily, he is a high-level energy manipulator.
The 'controlling metall' thing is just a tiny aspect of his incredible power. And in the comics, that aspect went to 'Redirecting a giant, planet killing object probably light years away back to Earth to break it up and save Kitty Pryde' levels.

If Magneto's control over it is absolute than I think the list of things he can't do is pretty short. Why bother calling himself "Magneto" instead of "The Invincible Super-God-Man"?
Magneto seems a bit OP is all I'm saying.
Ian Mc Diarmid even looks like he could play Magneto. Palpatine's outfit in the prequels isn't unlike what Magneto wore in the first three Fox movies.

The drawback to Magneto's powers is that, when he uses them to an extent, he tires himself out physically.
And once his near-indestructible shields are down, he is easy to hurt.

I'd be ok with the wooden gun if, after he fails to manipulate it, Reed uses it as a club.
I mean, if it's thick enough wood, it would work. Of course, that would only work if Erik didn't have him helmet....or Reed aimed for the face.
