Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Agreed. Most writers don't always have the drive to do that though.
Not that I can always blame them. It's entirely up to them to decide if it's worth trying or not. Sometimes a character appeals to you, and sometimes they don't.
One Strip! One Strip!Sally also once supported the 'clean Wehrmacht' myth which didn't help at all

That's what sets her apart from the likes of J. Jonah Jameson, whom writers clearly portray as in the wrong most of the time. Despite the fact that so much of what she says and does is wrong.
She's Unintentionally Unsympathetic.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWhich is why I genuinely enjoyed her being dragged away by Hydra Cap's goons.
Hey Sally, these are all just poor, misguided patriots, don't blame 'em!

Meaning the writer wants us to take her side. So that ridiculous "Myspace" speech? The writer expects us to agree with her.
It doesn't help that her usual role is to be a normal person criticizing Marvel superheroes.
Disgusted, but not surprisedThis, I cannot and will not defend.

I think the Marvel writers spent so much time making the civilians look unreasonable for criticizing superheroes they don't know how to actually write a sympathetic person who criticizes superheroes.

Welp. She's done for. I ain't jumping to help her.
But yeah. Don't use your characters as mouthpieces.
One Strip! One Strip!Well, at least she doesn't exist in Captain America: Civil War, or if she did she had a role so minor I've forgotten she was even in the film.
It's not a saving grace of the movie or anything, though. The movie still has a lot of issues, but Sally Floyd is thankfully not one of them.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrI was referring to the "or she did and she had a role that was so minor I forgot" part.
If they were being humorous, I apologize for not realizing that.
I honestly didn't know if she was in the movie or not, there's no need to apologize. Thank you for telling me.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrOkey, I read the speech and it wasnt....so bad? everyone is just fix in the myspace as it was the basis on the argument and was just the point of "Cap, american it isnt what is suposed to be" also the whole "you think yourself and army and if that is the case I want accountability" I cant disagree with that.
And is hilarious the clearn wehr myth because can did use a variant of that in the movie by implying Wanda and pietro were people fighting the wrong side.
Of course that would being the atention the fact that Wanda decide to colaborate with hydra.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"

I can't say I'm too familiar with Sally Floyd to comment on her specific case, but speaking generally, I see widely disliked characters who aren't explicitly evil mostly as a potential challenge for a writer to take on and Rescue them from the Scrappy Heap.
As far as I'm concerned any writer who isn't aggressively terrible can make you root for Captain America if they want to, but making you root for someone you couldn't stand previously is the mark of a truly brilliant writer.
