Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Doom has conquered the world at least twice, and conquered the multiverse once.
And in other stories he's defeated by Rubber band balls and stealing the intelligence of highschoolers to become smarter.
Yep.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Lets also remember he got owned by Squirrel Girl.
I mean, sure Doreen is a wrecking machine, but still.
One Strip! One Strip! What's the deal with Squirrel Girl anyway? I know basically nothing about her but my comic reader friends always seem to gush about her.
Like, I get the impression she's a sort of Lethal Joke Character. But how does that work in a series?

Kaze ni Nare! She's a gag character (sometimes) who inexplicably wins every fight she gets into regardless of who she fights. And she does it with the power to control squirrels.
She's only played somewhat seriously in her own comics, and even then it's not that serious.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThat is Reed's characterization most of the time. Unless the writer is out to make him an ass, Reed's generally portrayed as pretty chill for a supergenius. The problem is that quite a few writers make him an ass because said writers apparently can't comprehend the idea of a genius that isn't an Insufferable Genius. Probably due to some Psychological Projection on their part.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIn her own book, she won all the fights through squirrels, computer science, empathy, and friendship.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI guess I would clarify that she was a gag character for a span of a couple years when Great Lakes Avengers took her beating Doom and then turned it into a recurring gag where she could beat anyone but usually off-screen.
Her time as Luke and Jessica's nanny wasn't really that gag. She was an obscure character that had become moderately popular because of memes and was now a semi-recurring.
And her in her own book its not really a gag. She wins the fights because she's the protagonist and protagonists win eventually. Its her own book so she can struggle and have trouble and triumph by the end of the story. But because its Squirrel Girl and her methods means she doesn't have to always beat someone up, she does deal with stuff outside of what could be considered her weight class.
She gets to fight a T. Rex Ultron!

The family and I are going to watch Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and then Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. They pretty much rely on me to explain stuff because they don't want to sit through the other 18 movies (and neither do I, honestly), so what should I do to prepare? Read all the recap pages and take notes?
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr

The fact Doom is almost as smart as Reed doesn't make him less dangerous, the reverse.
He is still one of the smartest men on the planet & uses his intelligence for plots of world domination. There's a reason why the superhero community holds him so seriously.
Even Reed always considers him a problem that must be dealt with, Doom is not an Unknown Rival.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
