Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Mind you this would explain why Carol does not seem to have aged in 30 years.

That's one useless page topper

When you move at exactly the speed of light, your mass becomes infinite unless you had no mass to begin with.

Faster than light, mass becomes imaginary. As in it's a multiple of the square root of (-1).

Einstein said time is relative. Maybe Carol isn't late, maybe everyone else is early.

My idea is that the infamous experiment he was doing was an attempt to make a philosophers stone

That's more Diablo's backstory than Doom's.

(*reads "Bounding into Comics"*)

IT'S A TRAP!

Humorous overreactions aside, I would not advise linking anything from Bounding into Comics. In the spectrum of reliable insiders, they're pretty much rock bottom.

Also, Mikey Sutton is a crackpot with a capital "C". No use paying attention to what he says.

[up][up] I don't know how much more credible that youtube channel is either. Looking at their library they seem to specialize in just presenting rumor, most of which are unfounded.

On the upside, it's also being reported by We Got This Covered.

Everything will be a rumor until Marvel makes an official announcement. At least people are talking, but we can only wait until something is said.

I guess, but buying anything that sites well known for lying their asses off say on the grounds that any rumor can be true is more likely to spread misinformation than anything.

I would be all for Brie being cast but the source is suspect.

Marvel is also usually better at keeping casting choices secret than a lot of other major studios.

I do remember reading at some point that they were looking for an "Alison Brie type", in which case Alison Brie would be an inspired choice.

I'll be darned.

Captain Marvel 2 will be directed by Nia DaCosta from the upcoming Candyman movie.

I thought of her as a good choice for Blade, but hey, I'm not complaining.

Her prior film Little Woods is on Amazon and Hulu, and I would definitely recommend it as a timely tale of sisterhood and the need for better healthcare.

That's an interesting choice. If nothing else, her attempts at social commentary with her movies are much better than what the original Captain Marvel's marketing did.

The legend has returned.

But then she won’t have any control over the marketing for captain marvel 2
