Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I rather like comic-Ghost.
He’s a limber weirdo with poor hygiene, social skills, & just constantly creeps out his Thunderbolt teammates.
I’m hoping next time we see Ghost, now that she no longer had to worry about her life, she can adopt her comic-selfs quirky traits.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Out of context I actually like this because it’s like preemptive karma for Norman being a shit
Various sob backstories try to say that her death broke him but fuck that
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI always thought it was weird how Mrs. Osborn never does anything in The Spectacular Spider-Man. She was just sort of...there.
My honest guess was that they wanted her to be silent on purpose and when she says something, it's to deliver a massive Wham Line. Maybe for a scenario when everything falls apart on Norman (which is never happening now).
As I understand it, Classic Ghost hates Tony (though not for the reasons you'd expect).
He apparently just has general beef with the rich and powerful, and Tony fits that description, regardless of actual character.
Of course, it's Tony we're talking about, so while he's tried to do good and help people, I have little doubt that he did something to legitimize Ghost targeting him, because I think even Comics Tony can bring people to mind numbing rage through breathing air.
One Strip! One Strip!Ghost in Armored Adventures was a pretty effective villain, to the point I don't think Tony every managed to fully defeat him. Whenever he became close Ghost would be able to talk his way out of it.
Although I really don't mind the Ghost we got in Ant-Man and the Wasp. For one thing her appearance was close to Armored Adventures, and it was rather a nice change to have a villain who could be convinced to stop instead of requiring to be killed.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.There's no such thing as petty and baseless hatred of Tony Stark. It's alway justified by him being Tony Stark.
In all seriousness though, one of the villains had a particularly petty and baseless motive. See, he was an asshole who got drunk and used the Mandarin Ring to attack his father and brothers since they began Terrigenesis and he didn't (meaning he thought this confirmed he wasn't really his father's son). Iron Man tried to stop his rampage, but failed to do so before the asshole had destroyed his father's and brothers' cocoons, killing them. Later, he underwent Terrigenesis after all (his transformation occurred later because he got a different amount of exposure to Terrigen Mist since he lived apart from the rest of his family) which proved he really was his father's son after all. He briefly acknowledges that it's his fault, until the Mandarin Ring convinces him that it's Tony's fault for not stopping him in time.
Essentially, the guy hated Tony for not being able to prevent his murderous rampage.
The motives of the rest of this team weren't much better, tbh.

Disgusted, but not surprised
Briefly. See, they were temporarily given sentience after being exposed to an advanced alien android. The now sentient Rings were influenced by their most notable bearer's (namely, the Mandarin) hatred of Tony Stark and acted accordingly.

Well yeah. Tony should have been faster. The ring was right.
But man, it takes my people are willing to murder a lot of innocents to fuck with Tony Stark joke to it's worst possible conclusion.

One Strip! One Strip! And then there's Malekith the Accursed (who is a much more effective villain in the comics than in the MCU) who called The Wild Hunt on Tony Stark just because Tony calls himself Iron Man.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI think I saw a tiny bit of that arc. I do remember wondering why a Thor Villain would suddenly be messing with Iron Man.
I mean, his suit actually has very little iron in it.
Edit: So I checked out the Wild Hunt page, and it even mentioned the arc with Tony and Malekith.
To quote:
Well played Stark. Well damn played.

One Strip! One Strip!Tony's rampage made him the new bogeyman of Dark Elf society who frightened children into behaving (something Malekith considered a silver lining to the whole thing).
It didn't help that Malekith got personal by taunting Tony about his recent discovery that he was adopted. He went so far as to call Tony a Changeling and claim that this meant Tony was one of Malekith's subjects all along.
...Comics Malekith is kind of an asshole.

Yeah, not exactly a stellar one, but the Armored Adventures version was pretty cool.
Wake me up at your own risk.
