Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I keep saying if we want Magneto in the MCU, just put him in stasis.
HYDRA has stasis technology (with the Winter Soldier) and were connected with the Nazis, it's not infeasible that a HYDRA scientist took notice one of the camp prisoners was the master of magnet and decided to put him on ice so they could study and maybe replicate his powers.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Who would make a good Cyclops and Jean? I can't really think of anyone.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI'm going to rehash my comment whenever this comes up (ditto Moon Knight, although I don't think that particular discussion has been here yet). There have not been any Jewish hero characters yet (or IIRC any characters identified as Jewish period), and so I'm pretty opposed to the idea that what Jewish representation there is should be removed.
Also, I think that having Magneto look like a young or relatively guy would be a nice way of both emphasizing the mutant superiority element and by framing him explicitly or implicitly as a dark mirror of Captain America. My fancast would either be Jason Isaacs or Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
Edit - Having him put on ice would also be a cool (sorry) idea, which would also make for obvious Captain America parallels. Although that would presumably mean an even younger actor.

Scott doesn't have that many requirements, just someone who is good at being straightlaced and bounces off well with the rest of the wilder cast and doesn't mind wearing red sunglasses most of the time. Jean, well, find a good young redhead, if they aren't going to Race Lift her or anything.
Wake me up at your own risk.![]()
Isn't Kitty Pride Jewish? She was way underused in the Fox films and it could be nice to see more of her (I wouldn't mind seeing Ellen Page again in the role, come to think of it).

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.If we do get Magneto, I'd rather they introduce him as an Anti-Villain and have him become more of an unambiguous hero like some comic arcs had, instead of just falling back on him almost every film like the Fox films did.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I would like for at least the first movie not have Wolverine, Professor X, or Magneto. I feel like they can wait to introduce them in the MCU.

She is. And oddly from the same town as I am. I would like to see her cast and featured prominently as well.
Also, I do want to note that there are of course Jews of many races, and while Magneto's backstory limits the casting a bit more, Kitty could probably be cast with an actress of any race. Ditto Moon Knight to be honest.

Ditto. That would be another way to distinguish him from the Fox version.

Ah, Alpha Flight and its romances that all make me uncomfortable on at least some level.
- Mac and Heather who the backstory makes sure to tell us met when Heather was only 17.
- Aurora and Walter's romance where the problem of Aurora's other personality hating Walter is basically ignored.
- Doug Thompson and his wife Narya who is technically 6 years old.
- Namor and Marrina who are both adults when they meet, but Namor was three times Marrina's age... and at one point the narration calls Marrina a "tantalizing child-woman"... Oh also there's a subplot about Marrina's adopted brother being in love with her...
Northstar was mostly able to avoid the creepy romance because he wasn't allowed any romance at all. Which definitely says something about the people who considered all of the above acceptable but not Northstar dating another man.
The untitled sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home has apparently moved from November next year to December.
This is a goddamn nightmare. I want to go to the movies again. Somebody save us!
EDIT: Silver lining to this development, not only will this be the second time we got a Spider-Man movie released during the Christmas season, but apparently it means an inevitable $1 billion. I'm still mad.

Do we have any idea on who the villain in the next Spider-Man movie is?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadNo one knows, but the prevailing theory / wish on here tends to be Kraven the Hunter (though essentially usurping Scorpion's plot).
I'm actually surprised the thing is coming out so soon. I was expecting the next Spidey film after Black Panther 2 at least. Hopefully, even though it's pushed back, we might get some info soon.
In fact, isn't SDCC next weekend?
No, wait, crap it's tomorrow!

Stark industrial pollution killed the hunting grounds Kraven hunted at. He became a man-hunter ever since after running out of animals to kill.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

There are so many characters in the X-Men and X-adjacent stories to use, that it would probably do everyone some good to generate distance from the Fox interpretation. No Wolverine for a few movies, no Magneto, no Mystique unless she’s an out and out Captain Marvel villain with Rogue, etc.
