Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Jean Gray made them stay together
Or else a sentient bacteria would do an age of apocalypse except more prog rock
Clearly jean had to stop that
Forever liveblogging the AvengersA hero's mind control powers have to be either very limited or come with some major ethical scruples, otherwise they could just go around telling supervillains, "Don't be a supervillain anymore", and they'd do it. Joker Immunity won't allow that.

Basically, his healthiest relationships are with non-psychics.
Oh and just in case you didn't think Morrison's run was messed up enough, the new power he gave Emma means she has a very similar power set to a villain Scott encountered earlier in his hero career
.
His powers:
Diamond body: He could transform his entire body into a diamond-like form, much like Emma Frost.
Telepathy: He had a mild form of telepathy in which he was able to sense people's presences, as well as send out mental suggestions to others to bend their will. He could also use this ability to block other telepathic assaults against him.
Teleportation: In his first appearance, he had the ability to teleport himself and others short distances through means of separating someone's atoms and then recombining them at their destination.
That's what Zatanna tried to do to Dr Light once. It didn't go as well as she'd hoped. She was much more successful with Catwoman (fans weren't happy with that retcon).

And lets not forget when he saved the entire universe by beating the Grandmaster in a simple Carny game....he cheated too, because you don't risk the universe on a game of chance.
As for Eros....from what little I know, he's actually a decent guy....unless him being a womanizer is canon as well. If so, then yeah.
The fact that that one She Hulk arc where they raised the possibility that he manipulated her had everyone (even him) believing it before it was revealed that Thanos was just messing with everyone shows that there's no one in universe who thinks well of him.
One Strip! One Strip! There’s some late Starlin work I believe that has Eros called a sociopath
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOuch.
So basically, not a good guy, and never has been, but was seen as one due to the era he was written in.
Gotcha.
One Strip! One Strip!I mean. He acts the good guy. He largely does good stuff
He just doesn’t have the same moral brain stuff as most other heroes
For context it comes up because Thanos accuses Eros of being a sociopath, calling it the dark secret that he’d been hiding. Eros is surprised that Thanos calls him out like that but then shrugs it off like mm probably and then goes back to his weird master plan to stop the threat de jour
I think it’s the same story where Eros tries to stop Thanos from becoming an all consuming cosmic threat by going through time and telling Thanos at various points that he loves and supports him
Which Thanos eventually tells him comes off as super insincere

Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo he's a Heroic Sociopath to Thanos' evil Sociopath?
Well, I guess that makes sense.
One Strip! One Strip!Their parents weren't exactly the best either. Their mother outright tried to kill Thanos when he was born because of his appearance (and because she foresaw what he might do), and their father only stopped her because he wanted to see how powerful Thanos would become as an Eternal Deviant mutant.
Eros' main problem is that he genuinely doesn't seem to get why manipulating people the way he does is questionable. In that She-Hulk arc for example, while he didn't commit rape with his powers he did manipulate Jennifer by making her fall super in love with her boyfriend so that she would marry him. Eros genuinely thought he was helping her when he did that.
Eros is kind of like Elmer C. Albatross from Baccano. They are both sociopaths who find validation by spreading love and happiness respectively. But because they lack genuine empathy, they don't really care about the feelings of other people. They just want to see more people in love (Eros) and smiles (Elmer).
That said, Thanos is hardly one to make moral judgements. Shitty as Eros is, he pales in comparison to someone who once killed half the universe.

Disgusted, but not surprisedFor She-Hulk fans which depiction of her do you think the show should go with; the Statuesque Stunner Ms. Fanservice version or the current larger, Beastess version as depicted by Jason Aaron?
Classic Shulkie. It's what sets her apart from Bruce....since even when he's smart, he's still a large hulking (no pun intended) mountain of a man.
One Strip! One Strip!I agree, though I do feel that an arc having her tackle the "beastess" characterization would be an interesting one later down the line. A nice shake-up to the status quo so the character can reavaluate itself.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."In the recent comics, Jennifer's Hulk form seems to be a mix of the Beastess form and the classic form. She's heavily muscled but is still drawn in a way that we're clearly meant to see as attractive.
Reminds me of Dragon's Crown's Amazon, only with more clothing.

Disgusted, but not surprisedEros is living proof of something that was brought up in Jessica Jones (the show at least) when it was pointed out that someone born with mind control powers of any kind simply can't operate on the same moral wavelength as normal people. They literally cannot understand consent properly.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."

...Yeah, they've all crossed some pretty important ethical lines with their psychic powers at one point or another.
Disgusted, but not surprised
