Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Idris Elba is definitely the first guy to come to mind whenever I think of “older black actor”, though I admit I don’t know too many others. Who else is there?
Oh God! Natural light!Ernie Hudson would be my pick for Blue Marvel. He's already got experience with dealing with the extra-dimensional.
Or Andre Braugher instead.
Will Smith
Though I don't think he would be a good fit....
Jaime Foxx could be great. And he would fit right in next to all the other MCU actors who got their breakthrough after previously starring in crappy, non-MCU marvel adaptations.
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianI mean, hey, Brie Larson's Captain Marvel hasn't aged in thirty years, apparently. And was already younger-looking than canon Captain Marvel when her movie takes place.
Also, imagine the delicious rage of when the chuds see John Boyega's Blue Marvel, a black Superman analogue who, in the style of MCU Captain Marvel, is one of the most powerful beings in the setting.
My various fanfics....That is a good pick.
I'll also say Keith David. Though he might be too old. He did just turn 64 today.
My various fanfics.EDIT: Stupid timestamp wouldn't work.

My various fanfics.@ Son of Sharknado - I like it, especially with the parallel to Larson.
Speaking of, Captain Marvel is also an example where having a character being Older Than They Look can make for interesting dynamics.
I'm interested to see what the relationship will be like between Carol and the now adult Monica Rambeau. Kind of a weird situation when your Cool Aunt hasn't aged a day in 20-plus years (and kind of ditched you during the intervening time).

I do feel like Isaiah can nail the "heartbroken but responsible" aspects of the character. Hell, he's already played (Spoilers for It: Chapter Two) a character who was shut out from and secluded himself from the world to focus on knowledge before finally being called back to action and responsibility.
Plus then we can see this as Blue Marvel sharing a drug trip with Professor Xavier and making a murder pact to kill Erik Selvig's son Zeitgeist.

I really, really wanted Keith David to play Dormammu. If he shows up now, I hope he gets a role of similar gravitas, that can make best use of his amazing voice. Mephisto, or Shuma Gorath, a god or celestial or what have you.
Come to think of it, I know they said ages ago that the villain of Dr. Strange 2 was going to be Nightmare, but going by description and name and general concept Multiverse of Madness feels a hell of a lot like a Shuma Gorath movie.
And, hey, Nightmare was a minion of Shuma's at one point in time...

Who could play America Chavez?
Also, are there any other Hispanic or Latinx characters of note in Marvel? A quick wiki search tells me there's Sam-Nova, but no one else that really stands out to me outside of Miguel (Spider-Verse).
On a semi-related note, I'm looking for a role for Pedro Pascal, since I really want him in the MCU. Kraven? Kl'rt?
Huh! Coogler originally wanted to include Kraven in some capacity in Black Panther. Also, with the Heart-Shaped Herb gone...
Wait, why does Kraven's wiki page list him as having "Ultra Instinct"? Is that a thing outside of Dragon Ball?
I just thought of Reptile who’s power is to transform into dinosaurs.
Also this character isn’t of Latin/Hispanic descent but Hazmat would provide some Asian rep. Her boyfriend Mettle is also a black Jewish Hawaiian going by his character page.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."X-Men's Bobby Da Costa aka Sun Spot who is Afro-Brazilian. There is also Julio Esteban Richter aka Rictor.
They already are.
It be incredible if they did though.
Especially since it be a humongous boost for the 2. Both are pretty B-List characters with only Shatterstar having a cinematic appearance & that was Deadpool 2's X-Force joke. It was a funny joke sure, but ya know still a waste of good characters.
They'd be fucking icons.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."

I’d recommend Idris Elba solely because Marvel is a black Superman & Elba already played one in Hobbs & Shaw.
