Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

One of the larger problems with Civil War is the whole Poor Communication Kills Trope being ramped up to ELEVEN.
ONE phone call would have killed Zemo's plan, Steve when told of the other Winter Soldiers decided he's "On his own" and goes off to save the world. I litterly muttered aloud in the Theater "What about Nat?!"
Seriously Steve? You knew that the "Doctor" evaluating Bucky was fake, ergo that guy sleazed his way into the building and you have a really effective Super Spy on your Speed Dial, she would be MORE than HAPPY to confirm that guy was a fake and even HAPPIER to waltz into the room where Ross was reading Tony the Riot act and show that ROSS let a Hydra Operative into the building and get into the same room as the Winter Soldier.
Seriously they only found out about Zemo's deception AFTER he calls in the tip to have the guy's corpse found.
Bucky makes Steve act pretty dumb
Something he has in common with Tony. Hey maybe they should bond over that
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo... The remaining guardians run into Tony, Peter and Strange on Titan. They find out they all know Thor....
....Peter has a communcator doesn't he? Why didn't he send a message to Rocket telling him to come to Titan once they've made Stormbreaker?
Because Thor would have done a lot more good on Titan than on Earth (since that's where Thanos was after all).
Or at best, they could have Bifrosted to Wakanda, and had everyone together, which might have made a bigger difference in the battle.
Or, having Thor there meant there was someone else to help remove the gauntlet, possibly via Literal Disarming.
So once again, Peter Quill ruins everything.
Um, what? the Quill hate is ridiculous.
Thor knew Thanos was headed for Earth because of the stone that he let stay there, and also knew people there and that they'd be mounting a defense. He has every reason to believe he'd have more ability to do more on Earth as opposed to Titan, especially given we don't actually know how long Team Time Stone were there before Thanos got there.
I saw a video that suggested that in the gaze that Heimdall and Thor had (before Heimdall sent Hulk away and became the first named casualty of the Infinity War), that was in fact them using Heimdall's powers to have an Inner Monologue Conversation and decide where to send Hulk.
I do wish Heimdall got one more fight scene, though.
It's Rob. Ridiculous hate is his middle name.
Oh come on! I put in a Joking Mode pothole. I mean, at this point I'm not 100% committed to it. I did legitimately hate him, but I always got why he did what he did, and more to the point, knew that the next movie would deal with it.
Anyway, the other stuff you said makes sense, though it doesn't counter my point that the decision is based off him not knowing Thanos was on Titan (and thereby making his decision to go to Earth far more logical), and thereby I ask again why Quill never tried to call Rocket.

The better question is why didn't Nebula call Rocket to pick her and Tony up?
Also, is anyone else bugged by the question of "What did Mantis do during the Endgame battle?" Unlike her comic counterpart, she has shown zero combat ability or even mindset. It wouldn't have bugged me if she wasn't in that one all-female shot (as the only Guardian representative, I think).

Mantis does seem to have learned some combat skills (or at least she thinks she does), as she takes a few martial poses (appropriately praying-mantis like) during Infinity War if I recall correctly. It is quite possible she has learned to weaponise her empathic abilities like she did when fighting Thanos (and against Gamora in GoG 2). The fact that she was able to make a planet go to sleep and managed to subdue Thanos for some time would hint that she is actually quite powerful.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.There's a brief shot of Mantis in the Endgame final battle where she subdues one of the Chitauri Berserkers with her sleep powers, but it's typically missed because it happens in the background while Thor and Cap accidentally switch hammers.
(On the right, behind Thor.)

Huh. I never noticed. There are some really cool details all throughout the fight.
Well... If she kept doing that on large opponents, that'd actually be pretty powerful. I know she did it on heavy hitters such as Ego and Thanos (with trouble fighting against their wills), but wasn't expecting her to do it in a war zone.
One of my favorite minor details is that from the opening run onwards, Mbaku isn't too far off from keeping up with T'Challa and Steve, despite not having any enhancements. Also, I really love the weapons Shuri invented, and how much use she, T'Challa, and Okoye get out of them. I wonder what she'll come up with in the sequel!
Right. Having an argument with someone:
He wants to know how Thanos brought his ship to the future without Pym particles. I've explained that they did have Pym Particles. We see 204 Nebula take the particles from 2023 Nebula's suit and present them to him.
They obviously studied them and then made more, and thus when 2014 Nebula opens the path, they use those to come to the future.
For some reason he's questioning this, and so I need to you guys to confirm what I know to be the damned truth so I can end this, since if I don't he'll insist I'm totally wrong even though I KNOW that's not the case.
Help a handsome fellow out.
One Strip! One Strip!According to the russos, ebony maw reverse engineered it
That’s outside movie word of god. There’s still enough evidence inside the movie that Team Thanos had access to Pym particles

Forever liveblogging the AvengersThanos and co. reverse-engineering Pym Particles nearly risked one of the most dangerous possible timelines ever if not for them fortunately missing their vast potential and then all being killed.
Like, imagine Thanos's ship but now it's fly-sized and could just zip around assassinating all the Avengers. D:
I think it makes sense that Thanos wouldn't be an expert using the Pym Particles / wouldn't care enough to learn more intricate uses of them, because he's similarly shown as kind of a Jack of All Stats with the Infinity Stones.
Wanda, Carol, and Strange all can do things with "their stones" beyond what Thanos can when he uses them. Which I take to reflect the nature of the Stones (they are "Infinity" stones, so the power is inexhaustible), and because everything Thanos does is a means to the end of wiping out half of life in the universe.

To be fair, the name "Bucky" is basically kryptonite to Steve, but more exploitable.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr
