Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I could see polyamory being more socially acceptable as a side-effect of the Blip.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.I don't remember if we saw something looking like viruses during the trip to the Quantum Realm. There were tardigrades, and I think there was something looking like the representation of an atom, but I'd be curious to know if there was something else before the acid trip began.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.I suppose an X-Men plot-line could come from this:
- the Avengers vs X-Men storyline that, I think, dealt with an epidemic where the Inhumans terrigen whatever was lethal to mutants
- mutant paranoia goes up, up, up because scary virus happens and suddenly people have mutant powers
Ok. So I always give Captain Marvel sh-t for not showing up to help with any of the Phase 1 to 3 movies.
Now I have to give Cap sh-t for not going to or contacting any of the Avengers during Winter Soldier. Did Stark not leave a "break glass in case an entire organization [Stark] immensely dicks around with turns out to be a corrupt Neo-Nazi regime?" button.
Was Banner not on HYDRA's watchlist? Did Widow not have 24-hour surveillance on him? Even if he was being monitored what exactly were they planning to do if Widow or Cap told him anything. "Hey Bruce SHIELD is HYDRA go nuts!"
Did Thor not have a "break glass in case we need to do a big MCU team photo" button somewhere? Did he just show up after Avengers whenever he wanted randomly?
Were Cap and super secret agent womaaaaaan Black Widow truly so boxed in by HYDRA they couldn't sneak their way into a pay phone and contact any of these extremely useful people? What about Rhodes? He's not SHIELD. He's reach-able. And by extension so is Tony.
Did no one even consider contacting any of the Real SHIELD people from Agents of Shield at the time?
Did Maria Hill not have any of the Avengers on Snapchat or something, or was she too busy putting together that rescue halfway through the movie?
See this is why Fury should have put the Netflix-vengers on the list - Luke or Castle or Jessica would have been an immense help and they were in Queens when all of this was going down. Well maybe not Castle I guess.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!HYDRA knew Steve would go for the Avengers, and most of them are not exactly subtle enough to help unravel a conspiracy. They were trying to lie low, so they went to some random guy Steve had just met, who wouldn't be on the HYDRA watchlists yet.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.![]()
There's always going to be a level of Superman Stays Out of Gotham that we need to accept for MCU films. While in some cases the reason is explicit and flows directly from the premisenote , we can't expect every movie to go through a list of all nominally available Avengers that the studio didn't budget for and explain what they are too busy doing or why they can't be contacted.
That being said I think Winter Soldier could of at least indicated why Tony Stark and Bruce Banner couldn't of been brought in. It could be as simple as Nick Fury not having any secure means of contacting them in time to help with the Helicarrier problem. Obviously he was able to contact them eventually since the next time we see the Avengers they are all smashing their way through Von Strucker's base.

Keep in mind that HYDRA was keeping tabs on anything that might lead them to Steve and Natasha. Phone calls, social media posts, texts, anything. They couldn't exactly contact the other Avengers to help without alerting HYDRA to where they were. Unless they got decrypted phones or something, but that's still a big risk.
"hey guys you Know that thor movie they were discussing with netflix? Yeah I heard Stark Industries was thinking about funding it. They're thinking about having others like Captain America and the Hulk show up lololol. They're supposed to be shooting in Brooklyn I think."

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!And the time frame of the movie, as with most MCU films, was incredibly short for the time period that they were on the run.
Cap shook any immediate tails on him on the bridge (the deleted concept fight with Hawkeye would've given some explanation, but it's still a little ridiculous), then went to the hospital for the USB. The closest major hospitals to the Triskelion are minutes away. Then he met up with Natasha, had their conversation, and they went to the mall. They found out the information they needed was in New Jersey. They stole a car, and headed to the fictional Camp Lehigh in fictional Wheaton, New Jersey, which would've been 4-5 hours drive. Then there were the scenes there, and they realized they needed to rush back to stop the launch, which they did by driving back overnight - they didn't even have time to find a shower before getting to Sam's place the following morning. The one opportunity they could've had to run into another Avenger would've been to hope that Stark, Pepper, or Banner was at Stark Tower, which would've meant hours more of a journey, with no guarantee that they'd even find someone, in one of the busiest cities in the world (too many eyes). Rhodey would've of course been impossible to reach.

One Strip! One Strip!Double Post: Re-watching the original Thor. Odin's speech at the beginning (not surprisingly) takes some darker connotations when you know the real story.
Also, the scene where Thor is arrogantly striding down the walkway is great because of Odin's face the entire time.
Everyone else is just Ha! Ha! That wacky crazy Thor!
Odin's just like please don't let this shit happen again.
One Strip! One Strip! And of course there's that moment where Odin pauses before saying, "...my firstborn...", while Frigga looks away.
I assure you, I'm perfectly trustable personOh. I missed that.
Years later and we're still finding these little things about the old movies.
So does this mean Frigga is Hela's mom? I never really gave it much thought.
One Strip! One Strip!

It's a meat-cycle.
