Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It will also serve as a reminder that our species ability for total harmful stupidity is limitless.
Who the fuck spring breaks in the middle of an epidemic?
And how do you respect a virus, was Vanessa Hudgens high when she said that?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."How much do you personally know about the yellow fever epidemic of Memphis?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSomeone I know is reading a book about it. The government response had a lot of similarities to now actually
The more things change, etc.
Every disaster eventually gets displaced in memory by the next horrible thing.
If covid is the last big plague to hit the world we might remember it for centuries. And if it’s not, we probably won’t. Not vividly. Not solemnly.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAnd now production on Spider-Man 3 is getting put on hold because of the coronavirus...
Why won't this pandemic stop???
Corona will be remembered in medical history, sure. But in a hundred years the average person won't know much about it. Just ask the average person today about the Spanish flu. Unless that person is a medical professional or a history buff, they probably won't know much more than that it was a 20s-era pandemic, and that it was really deadly.
Back to the MCU... Yeah, I feel a JJJ cameo in Doctor Strange 2 is very likely. With Raimi directing and Simmons already appearing in Far from Home, it just makes sense. I do wonder if it could actually be Raimiverse Jameson though? The movie is supposed to involve the multiverse, so it's not impossible they could reference the original Spider-Man trilogy. I don't expect Tobey Maguire to team up with Strange or anything that crazy, but say, having Jameson see Dr Strange before Spider-Man 2 would make an amazing Brick Joke. For anyone who doesn't know or remember, there was a line where Dr Strange was suggested as a name for Doc Ock, which Jameson liked but shot down because "It's taken!".

They're the same actor. And they look identical unless you're going to glue some hair to J.K. Simmons.
But if they point at each other, it might be worth it.

Is that wishful thinking? Because that's the first I hear about a JJJ cameo in Doctor Strange 2. I wouldn't oppose it because it WOULD make for a great brick joke, but I'm worried it won't happen unless Sony allows it.
On the subject of multiversal shenanigans, I keep brainstorming a potential visit to the world of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It would make for a great Holy Shit Quotient, but like I said earlier, it'd probably only happen if Sony okays it.

Bear in mind, communication and news record ability was much lower in 1918 than it is in 2020. Generally, perception of disaster has increased as our technology has advanced. Note how there were more disaster movies in the 50s because of television despite there being larger natural disasters in the 30s.
I swear I saw someone mention the possibility earlier in the thread, but maybe I just saw it somewhere else and got my wires crosses.
Regardless, Sony doesn't really have any reason to be that protective. It's not like they're making Spider-Man 4 at this point. It'd just be a quick cameo for the fans, and it might actually generate some more sales for both Doctor Strange and the OG Spider-Man trilogy.
And if they have any plans for a live-action Spider-Verse, it would set that up nicely. Although I don't know if Tobey has any interest in playing the part anymore. Just Andrew and Tom wouldn't be nearly as good, it would need all three to really work.
Edit: Was that Tweet even her or just an impersonator? Looks like that account got suspended, and I found another account that looks much more official. And you know, isn't suspended.

I mean, Sony has the film rights to Spider-Man. It just feels likes they'd want to assert that power.
Also, I feel I should clarify that in a hypothetical visit to the world of Into the Spider-Verse, it should be all animated like that movie was. But again, we'd have to be REALLY lucky to have that in Doctor Strange 2.

I'd love it if they have a post-credits gag where they show Strange's equivalent from the Spider-Ham universe, Croctor Strange.

Well it’s certainly a sign that we’re dearth of content & news now.
