Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I consider Apocalypse to be a villain in search of a movie (in more ways than one). It has some really good moments but the entire film got lost in the big, epicness it was trying to be, and the final fight takes like 30 minutes.
Psylocke wasn't a particularly strong part of the story, but wasn't an insultingly bad version of the character either. You could have taken her exit as a minor Sequel Hook, but that didn't pan out.

Now that’s what I call running out of budget.
Also funny thing about Apocalypse but Deadpool shows you can have characters with the over the top builds even if it’s done with CG.
So I’m hoping next time Apocalypse shows up he’s got the massive bod like Colossus & Juggernaut does.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."One of the highlights of a comics conference I went to a few years ago was hearing Scott McCloud complain that Apocalypse wasn't apocalyptic enough.
Oh in about 70 years or so.
His point was that he doesn't need technology, because with his powers he and his followers are far superior. Which is an awesome idea, but the rest of the film didn't quite measure up.
I still enjoyed the film, but in the end it was kinda meh.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. It's a trade off, using CG to render a character automatically creates a barrier to them feeling natural in their world, so otherworldly aliens and monsters is where CG works best, bodybuilders painted green and even really practical costumes and animatronics have their limitations. Apocalypse is known for size changing, but I think making him all CG would have harmed the movie because you would lose a lot of the performance of the central villain, and Oscar Isaac is putting all into he could. They put A LOT of effort into Thanos to avoid that pitfall.
Another X-Men thought.
So ya know how we all kind rib on the MCU for having way too many daddy issues with Thanos amusingly enough being the ultimate Arch-nemesis Dad?
Well now we have the opportunity for the ultimate reversal in Mystique, the mother of mommy issues. She has a lot of kids, the most famous of which being Rogue, Nightcrawler, & Graydon Creed, & she has treated all of them like fucking garbage. Hell she outright abandoned Graydon when she discovered he wasn't a Mutant which instilled him Mutant hatred & made him another genocider.
You can argue who is the worse parent between her & Thanos so it would be hilarious if they can manage to adapt the family insanity for these characters.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Scott Derrickson, the director of Doctor Strange, did a livetweet of the movie today. All down his timeline if you want to read it.
Thinking back on the film, I wonder if later films will interpret Mordo's line about "the bill comes due" for using the Time Stone as Thanos and the Black Order's assault for the Stone.
I ended up watching this later and it was an interesting breakdown.

Evangeline Lilly has apologized for her previous comments about COVID-19 and social distancing.
I mean, good for her, but her excuse of "But it wasn't the policy at the time!" is weird, since, I mean, I'm pretty health officials were telling people to do social distancing since early March, but whatever. (Also, her comments about "Martial Law" were silly and stupid.) I'm willingly to bet she saw the backlash to her post and decided it was better to simply apologize, which is fine.
Still: is there a way to introduce Nadia van Dyne into the MCU?

Black Widow, Stinger. A tiny girl leaps off of Natasha after having stowed away out of the Red Room. She introduces herself as Nadia.

Possibly Nadia could be Hope’s daughter
But there’s a high chance of in name only because there’s a lot of context to Nadia in the 616
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

I'm not gonna lie, compared to the truly bad X-Men movies, Apocalypse is pretty damn good. Like, I'd put it above other X-Men movies that are more well-liked, like The Wolverine or the first X-Men.
The legend has returned.
