Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

My reaction to the realizing The Hand were coming to the Netflix Marvel Universe: "Holy shit, we're getting the magic ninjas. I thought those guys were unfilmable!"
My reaction to watching The Hand in the Netflix Marvel Universe: "Goddammit, can we just stop with the magic ninjas already? Apparently these guys are unfilmable."

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I often say that the almost surreal thing is that they're a pretty accurate representation of what they are in the comics. It's just that the Netflix adaptation took them so faithfully that it tripped on the curtain and revealed that the Hand was always a generic, two-dimensional collection of vaguely ethnic stereotypes (at best) that runs on Rule of Cool.
It's a pretty funny case of something not working in a adaptation because it was too faithful.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."To be fair a couple members of the Hand were good, like Nobu and Gao. It's just the organization as a whole doesn't work.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI thought the ending of Luke Cage Season 2 was fantastic.
The problem is that there was no season 3.
My various fanfics.New plan:
Though this is assuming the MCU won't give Luke Cage a hard reset or whatever.
To be fair, the events of Infinity War / Endgame provide the perfect opportunity for a sort of Soft Reboot.
They all died and now kinda have to start fresh again.
One Strip! One Strip!Thinking back to how SWORD will be a thing as of WandaVision, in light of how it was off-limits due to Fox having dibs on it before the Disney-Fox buyout, it would be funny if they made an in-joke about why they couldn't use the name until now. Something like:
- Someone: So what's SWORD short for?Someone else: The Sentient World Observation and Response Department.Someone: How come it took so long for us to use that name? Sounds like something we should've had since the Kree/Skrull incident of '95 at the earliest.Someone else: From what I heard, a lot of paperwork was involved to get the okay to use the initials.Someone: Seriously? Who else really wanted their initials to spell SWORD?Someone else: No clue. But whoever they were, they weren't even doing anything with it anyway...
They kind of have to.
The deal was that they don't use any versions of the characters for two years, and don't use the Netflix specific versions of the characters ever.
So none of these characters or their plots are going to be the same. I'd be shocked if they could even get the same actors back.

Wait...what?
I knew about the first part, but I never heard the second. Why would that part even exist?
One Strip! One Strip! The Defenders all got snapped, and when Hulk brought them back they Came Back Wrong.
Because Netflix still owns the shows.
To be more accurate, the deal wasn't specifically that Marvel can't continue the Netflix series, because that part doesn't have to be stated. Netflix owns those versions of the characters no matter what, and in order to continue those specific stories Marvel would have to buy the shows off them - which they're unlikely to ever do since they could just do whatever they want with the characters themselves. It's like how having tv rights to Spider-Man doesn't give them the rights to every show Spider-Man was ever in (they have a chunk of them now due to the Fox buyout, but they don't have Spectacular).
So the question of "is Luke Cage / Daredevil / etc coming back to the MCU?" is more like "is the MCU going to make their own version of Luke Cage / Daredevil / etc?"
I'm assuming they're just going to Broad Strokes any past exploits when the characters do inevitably show up, and never go into any detail.

I've always found a fool's errand how people want the actors back. I'd love to see them back, but even if they somehow can return, what is the actual point if basically everything about them can never be referenced or brought up?
From a business perspective Marvel has very little incentive to actually bring them back. It's basically more trouble than it's worth.

Yeah both Iron Fist 2, as well as Luke Cage 2 had horribly open endings. Daredevil 3 to a slightly lesser degree.
Only Punisher 2 and Jessica Jones 3 had good, conclusive endings.
A shame, really.
