Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Oh no theme park Groot is like comic Groot and is spawning Grootlets!
Forever liveblogging the AvengersShang-Chi is suspending first unit production while the director gets tested for the coronavirus
.
It sounds like second unit filming will still continue.
With all the potential female characters in the future, this would be my list of most anticipated to least anticipated.
- Songbird: Falcon/Bucky
- Jennifer/ She-Hulk
- Peggy Carter: What if?
- Kate Bishop: Hawkeye
- Yelena
- The character of Sophia Di Martino.
- The character of Rachel Weizs
- Sylvie: Loki
- The character of Gugu Mbatha-Raw
- Ms. Marvel

As for shows that were airing and now have to halt production...maybe? It all depends on if they were getting low ratings on the first place. If you look at the shows cancelled during the Writers Strike
, then you'll see that most of them were either already on their last legs (Girlfriends, The 4400) or new shows that just weren't hitting it off (Bionic Woman, a bunch of sitcoms).
It's much more likely that shows will either be postponed (like the Disney+ shows) or have shortened seasons. And, hell, Pushing Daisies got a shortened season due to the Writers Strike and it was still renewed for a second season. Which was also it's last, sure, but not due to the Writers' Strike. (Meanwhile, shows that were postponed, like Battlestar Galactica or Chuck, ended up perfectly fine.)
The only difference in this case? Television can't switch to reality shows in order to make up for lack of content, since reality shows themselves are stopping production. So hopefully, all of this will be done by the time content dries up, but if not, we're in for a lot of reruns. Or networks making deals with streaming services to air shows — like CBS perhaps airing CBS All Access shows on their network.
As for how this will affect the MCU — Agents of SHIELD is already all filmed and done and will air in the summer, so there's no need to worry about that (especially since it's already the show's last season). Helstrom was expected to film between October 2019 and February 2020, so filming for that show might already be done, too; it probably just needs post-production work, which they may be able to continue working on, although I'm not sure. In any case, since filming is probably done, they will definitely air the entire season, although whether or not they will make more seasons of it will entirely depend on, again, how popular it is (not ratings, since it's Hulu).
The dates for the Disney+ shows will probably be pushed back, as will the dates of the movies. I definitely don't think that Marvel are going to cancel any of them.

Avengers: Endgame: The Russo Brothers Wanted Red Skull to Be More Like Yoda
"[The Russo Bros.] came to me and said we want you to take Hugo's Red Skull and infuse him with a bit of Yoda," Marquand told Nerds 4 Life. "He's a wise soul, he's 84 years older, and he's also an apparition. He's kind of a ghost at this point."
"He's no longer the diabolical, ambitious man that we know him as in 1944. He's a complicated anti-hero," Marquand continued. "I thought that was such a fun take on him, because he's just so broken — he's a cursed man, and I love playing that."
I think the better analogy is that the Red Skull became more of Tantalus-type figure; a monster ironically punished for his misdeeds in a way that will ensure he never hurts anyone again. A figure more to pity than to empathize with like you could with Yoda.

Doesn't seem particularly strange to me. In Infinity War its very clear that Red Skull is a broken old hermit vanguarding cosmic powers, which is not too far from Yoda in the OT.

Red Skull was never and should be never considered to be an "Anti-Hero" He's a Effin NAZI! At times I wonder what the Russo's are smoking and thank the gods that Feige put Jon and James as E Ps on IW and EG

Again, the Russos themselves describe Red Skull as a "ghost". The Red Skull is, for all intents and purposes, dead. What we meet in IW is a tormented shadow of him.

It’s a comic universe. When has canon ever made sense?
