Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So it would.
And Pete's got a big enough Rogues Gallery that there's enough for everyone.
One Strip! One Strip!I remember they had actual Deadpool show up and since Peter was already doing Deadpool but pg they had to crank Deadpool up to obnoxious levels

Forever liveblogging the AvengersDeadpool is one of these characters that one can get either completely right or completely wrong, not much middleground in between.
I loved the Nostalgia Critic's take on the obnoxious version, aka "Cosplay Deadpool" which rightfully pointed out how most Deadpool cosplayers just take it as an excuse to be annoying, often times even sexist assholes.

That episode is one of the ones I point to when I say I like the show. It was so funny.
Again not a perfect show, but I should note that breaking the fourth wall like that isn't totally out of character for Spider-Man.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI did notice it, though I still enjoyed the show.
What I didn't know is that it was apparently an editorial mandate.

Oh man. There's always love for the 60's Spiderman. Or at least the theme song. I think it's had it's stinkers...and one episode that was blatantly racist too.
One Strip! One Strip!Ive generally found the best response to “lol Spidey couldn’t punch anyone” in regards to the 90’s show is “yeah, but the plots were great, so who cares?”
It’s very easy to watch the whole show and never notice that Spider-Man never throws a punch unless you’re specifically looking for it. And there’s a reason that show was the Trope Codifier for a lot of a lot of elements adaptations still use today.
It’s not as great a show as Spectacular (what can be?), but it’s still one of the best adaptations Spidey’s ever had.

The '90s show has its issues (lackluster animation, weird censorship, lack of breathing room), but I think it holds up very well and those who are looking for a series where Peter is past high-school should give it a watch. Hell, it's the first piece of media outside the comics where Peter actually got married (although that ends tragically).
And the whole Spidey's not allowed to punch thing was actually a deliberate choice by the creators, as they wanted to show Peter defeating his opponents in unique ways rather than just beat them by punching them really hard.
The '60s cartoon is glorious cheese for the first season, than gets downright bizarre in the second once Ralph Bakshi took over and budget cuts set it. Ever want to see Spider-Man fight talking flowers from the past, evil lobster-aliens from the fifth dimension, or Mysterio without the fishbowl helmet? Then watch seasons two and three to see the closest a Spider-Man cartoon has ever gotten to a bad acid trip.

Some might call him a... Magnificent Bastard.
Ignore me.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadMy favorite line in the 90s series might be when Spidey just blows up the Beyonder in two sentences. "You had to wreck an entire civilization to prove that evil is bad?! For such a powerful being, you're a few stars shy of a galaxy, pal."
My various fanfics. It’s version of Osborn (that is, Norman specifically) is maybe my favorite outside the comics. They actually managed to make Norman freaking Osborn into a sympathetic Anti-Villain, even before the Superpowered Evil Side.
It’s also the last time we saw the Hobgoblin (the actual Hobgoblin, not “Green Goblin II but let’s call him Hobgoblin” like the more recent shows did) outside the comics, iirc. Spectacular tried, but got cancelled before they could realize it.
Played by the eternal Mark Hamill, no less:
Though iirc, the Daredevil episodes (and the arc they were in, in general) were some of the series’ best.

Ultimate Spider-Man had some good comedy, and a lot of not so good comedy. A consequence of turning Spidey into PG Deadpool.
