Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

At least in the Busiek run, people picketed the Avengers for having a mutant on the team.
The early runs didn't comment on it very much and it didn't seem like the public had a problem with it more than they had general problems due to their fickle whims. But the Avengers did fight Sentinels a couple times because of it.
Beast apparently was on the team during a time when the public was open to being mutant friendly. Very mutant friendly. Very mutant friendly.
He was mobbed by groups of horny women.
Edit: Oh right, there was a story where Magneto manipulated the anti-mutant sentiment to convince Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to join him again. So it existed.

Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()

Afair this was exactly one of the reasons the Avengers were criticized.
They only respond to the problem at hand, not the cause. They might help punch out the occasional Sentinel, but they don't address to root of the problem. I mean, it shouldn't be impossible, I don't see why superheroes can't be civil rights activist in addition to just soldiers.
I remember a storyline, X-Men vs Avengers (no, not that one), which had a very good story. Here is one of my favorite scenes

have a listen and have a link to my discord serverSo are you guys saying Ultimate Spiderman never happened?
It may be hypocritical of me to say it (since I've often advocated throwing out bad parts of a characters history if they go against how that person usually is), but I won't forget the Ultimate Universe.
It also gave us Samuel L. Jackson Nick Fury. Y'all just gonna have to deal.

Well as I recall a wise Robert Downey Jr. character once said:
"We're the Avengers! Not the Pre-vengers!''
One Strip! One Strip! The reason for the whole Villains Act, Heroes React thing is that when they start shutting down people for potentially being a threat, you start getting into Beware the Superman territory. That's the in-universe reason, at least, the meta reason is it's easier to write.
Even a stopped clock can be right twice every day right?
I mean, yeah it's Tony Stark, and he not only probably stopped that clock, but convinced his owner to take vengeance on him, resulting in the deaths of many people, but still.
One Strip! One Strip!Think of it like this, Ultimate Spider-Man was the only consitantly good Ultimate comics.
On the other side of the spectrum ya got making every Avenger a fucking jackass, turning Wolverine into an attempted murderer just to bang an underage Jean Grey, Prof. X wanting to bang an under age Jean Grey, Nightcralwer being a homophobic religious fundamentalist, Magneto trying to kill the planet, etc.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Wow.
Ultimate Peter Parker, Miles Morales and Black Nick Fury don't quite make up for all that shit do they?
I mean, I sometimes forget just how awful some of the stuff in the Ultimate Universe really was.
One Strip! One Strip!

I don't see what the Avengers would be expected to do. You can't solve widespread prejudice by punching people really hard in the face, and that's pretty much all they're good at.
