Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

To be fair, Peter Quill is a complete dipshit, but that's part of why I love him. Flawless heroes are boring.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I hate Quill entirely for his one action.
But I'm waiting for him to suffer as he redeems himself.
He's off to a good start, being punched in the face by War Machine, rejected by Past Gamora, and then basically being mocked by Thor.
Hopefully Guardians 3 will continue this as the universe continues to shit on him, while getting him to save it anyway.
And then once it's ground him into dust, I'll maybe forgive him.
One Strip! One Strip! The guy just can't catch a break. Basically every movie he's in feels the need to kick him in the teeth in some fashion. Even when he's brought back to life he's forced to carry on without the Gamora he knew.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)There's a part of me that hopes that the next GOTG film has an arc where Quill doesn't end up together with Gamora.
I can imagine the film having Quill trying his hardest to restart his relationship, but not really understanding that the Gamora that's alive now isn't the one who fell in love with him. And no matter how hard he tries, this Gamora is just not into him. So ultimately, Quill has to learn to let Gamora go and live with the fact that the Gamora he knew is never coming back.
I think that'd be the best way to address their relationship post-Endgame and not run into the problems of 2014!Gamora being a Replacement Goldfish.

I admit, I'm looking forward to that plot point too. Quill learning to move on from Gamora (the one he knew) and accepting the current one isn't her would be good.
He deserves some closure there, since he really did try to honour her wishes (when push came to shove he pulled the trigger like she asked).
After much suffering of course. Because he's gotta hurt. My vindictiveness demands it.
One Strip! One Strip!Star-Lord will spend Guardians 3 thinking Gamora's gonna "leave" him for Adam Warlock, only for her to date Mantis instead.

The fun thing about Quill is that he has a rather decent character development in the GotG films. Only Infinity War and Endgame have done their best to turn him into a joke, to the point it sometimes feel like a different character. Even the relationship with his teammates is different. I was actually reminded of Robin in Teen Titans Go (sorry for mentioning that show).
Now I wonder if GotG 3 will resume his characterisation from the GotG series or from Endgame.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.I love Infinity War and Endgame but I really get the impression they didn't know how to write Star-Lord. Not only is he Flanderized, he's also regressed on all his character development.
I wonder if there's some spite in there, given his role in IW is to needlessly bicker with his crew, get emasculated by Thor, and then "ruin" the Thanos plan, while his role in Endgame is to get his past self punched out while dancing and his present self knee'd in the groin, and then squabble with Thor some more. It's all pretty funny but it also feels like they just threw everything out to make him a joke character.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Gunn confirmed that in the original script they had Peter choke on pulling the trigger on Gamora when Thanos had her on Knowhere. He demanded that change to where he did pull the trigger only to have it fail thanks to Thanos having the Reality Stone.
He didn't confirm any other changes to the script.

Or me and wanda.
Or.....almost everyone with Iron fist.
