Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Oh, cool. Yeah, he could definitely be Isaiah Bradley or even Josiah X
.
Fun fact: Carl Lumbly was also M.A.N.T.I.S.

The other option, which would also be awesome, would be Adam Brashear
. After all, they do appear to be setting up Al Ewing's Ultimates, too.

That will be going into some really dark territory. Project: Rebirth and what it did to Isaiah and the other black soldiers was "inspired" by the Tuskogee Syphilus Study and it shows.
It's been a recurring theme in Marvel comics that black heroes had it rough. Heck, just look at Blue Marvel. His backstory is that he was pressured to go into retirement after he got unmasked because the public couldn't handle the idea of a prominent black superhero. He didn't get back into action until decades later when people became less hostile to seeing a black guy flying around in tights.

Disgusted, but not surprised
Nah, he got tenure after his first retirement from being a superhero and started a family. And he even got the Presidential Medal of Freedom from JFK when he retired, showing that he was appreciated by some people at least. Unfortunately that happiness didn't last.

Disgusted, but not surprisedDidn't that also go horribly wrong, with his older son becoming trapped in another dimension and mutating into a horrible monster while his younger son blamed his father for it and became a Mad Scientist supervillain as part of his desperate efforts to save his older brother?
...Still a way better adventurer dad than Jonas Venture Sr.

Disgusted, but not surprised... comic books, man.
Though this is actually something that can be really annoying about comics. Family groups can't be happy, and characters - even ones who have already answered the call - have to have awful things happen to the people around them to be spurred into heroics.
He is at least not another example of Electric Black Guy — his powerset revolves around anti-matter.
Disgusted, but not surprisedHe also recently jobbed to Silver Sable in a Dr Doom comic.
Blue Marvel just does not catch a break.
Character details on She-Hulk
.
Elba's character was more like black Deathstroke.

That's bullshit.
Pretty sure Blue Marvel is one of the heaviest heavy hitters. Sable should have gotten splattered just looking at him.
I know it's all the one who wins is who the writer wants to win but there's taking that concept too far.
One Strip! One Strip!

Supergirl and Doctor Sleep's Carl Lumbly is joining The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Some suspect this will set up Patriot.
(Fun fact: Lumbly is also Martian Manhunter from the Justice League cartoon!)
