Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Then Age of Ultron could've started with Tony taking a back-seat role in running the Avengers and he only dons the suit again once Ultron goes sideways. I don't think you really needed Wanda to mess with Tony in-person to convince him to take Loki's scepter, and it would better tie-in the two films together.
You still see hints of that in the final film, but there's a lot of stuff you got to extrapolate from that. Like, why Tony decided to come out of retirement and why he rebuilt his suits after seemingly destroying them. I guess part of this could be blamed on Iron Man 3 being written as a finale to Tony's character because his contract was about to expire at the time. Of course, that's old news by now. So what are you going to do?
Ooo, I like that idea. I propose doing both (uh, via time traveling back to 2012, I guess?). Iron Man 3 sets up Tony's mindset for Age of Ultron, while the Clairvoyant story in Agents introduces the AI that will become Ultron itself.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I sometimes feel like I am the only one who actually likes MCU!Ultron. I mean everytime I look up something about the film. I find some video or article about how he's the worst MCU villain. I mean really when Malekith exists. I mean say what you will about the movie, but James Spader was great and really sold it.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadUltron is not the low point of MCU baddies because he at least has a bit more interesting aspects to talk about than the likes of These Fucksᵀᴹ from Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 going for him. But I can't say he does it for me for a bunch of reasons, most glaringly of which is his annoying dialogue just undercuts his potential menace. And yeah I get that's sort of a reflection of Tony, but that doesn't do too much to alleviate it.

In his first appearance he would be a little stronger than Loki, and in his last appearance he would be able to fight Thor, Carol, Wanda, Strange and Jane Foster at the same time.

Ultron is not so bad, people exaggerate a lot with the character.

That’s because Loki is a trickster character who plans his shit & falls apart when finally physically confronted which is a common depiction of the character. He’s not expected to be strong.
Ultron is always portrayed in every incarnation from comics to TV shows as a physical juggernaut capable of handing entire teams of Avengers their collective asses. He is very much expected to be strong.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I actually find comics Ultron stories tiresome ever since he got Adamantium because it becomes the Avengers futilely banging their heads against a brick wall until someone comes up with a magic solution.
And usually a literal magic solution because for a while Wanda was the go-to.
I'd prefer a craftier Ultron who can't lean on because indestructible.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersLoki as an Avengers villain worked for me because he initially kills a lot of people and manipulates all the heroes. It's only during the third act that he starts getting humiliated, and by then the buildup makes it cathartic.
Ultron, on the other hand, barely has a bodycount, is treated like a dork for most of the film, and by the time he actually does something significant like kill Quicksilver it's too late, his master plan has already failed.

Aside from a couple characterization issues (although I admit I find a few of Ultron's quips legitimately funny), I think my biggest problem with Ultron are his motives are kind of muddled and require a few leaps to understand why he's doing what he's doing.
Ultron starts the film off believing the Avengers cause more problems than they solve; they're too reckless and strive to preserve the status quo than instigate real change. Okay, that's a good motive, I'm with him so far. So, what's his plan to change this? First it's to kill the Avengers, but then Ultron comes to the conclusion that humanity itself needs to change. And the only way to do that is by starting a mass extinction level event that will leave only a few people alive, and those that will survive will be stronger. Ultron intends to lead the survivors (that's why he built Vision in the first place), but once the Maximoffs abandon him, he seems to just want to kill everyone and rule the world with his army of drones.
There's a bit of jumps to see his chain of logic, and the best explanation of that is that he's just crazy. I think Ultron would've worked better as a twisted reflection of Tony's idea of "a suit of armor around the world", and that he should take over the world by force to instill world peace. It would better reflect the themes the film was going for regarding the line between heroes and monsters, and how the Avengers could slip by letting their moral values consume them.
William Hurt will appear in She-Hulk as General Ross...and the Red Hulk?

I hope they confirm the Leader and the abomination.
"Let's hope it goes better than the comics, where Red Hulk beats the shit out of the Watcher, Thor, and the Silver Surfer to prove how super duper awesome he is."
I guess he'll get a nerf, so that She-Hulk is able to beat him.

Or Harpy
Jeff Parker's run was great, so the comics were already "great".
