Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The only Hand member I actually like was Nobu. I don't know why, but I just liked the fights with him.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadHe also had a bit of an actual personality, even if it mostly revolved around him being a dick.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. For me it's Madame Gao (though her being part of the Hand is clearly a bit of Arc Welding). Her actress really sells the menace.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The Nobu fights are all really good. The rooftop battle at the end of Season 2 is spectacular and one of my favorite fight sequences.
His boss Murakami meanwhile is kind of a waste.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!![]()

Oh yes, Madame Gao was the best. One of my favorite parts of Defenders was her having a pleasant chat for Alexandra, seemingly on her side the entire time... and then as she walks out, her smile disappears, and she just says "You were right" to one of her compatriots. A very simple but well-acted scene that says a lot about her as a character.

Nobu and Murakami really should have just been the same character.

Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Bakuto kinda amuses me just because of the fact that, as one of the Hand's leaders, he's actually several centuries old, if not a whole millenium. It's harder to reconcile with his youthful appearance compared to the other four.
Incidentally that'd mean he's from pre-Conquistador South America. I wonder how he got to K'un-Lun in the first place.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I honestly think they should have focused on one maybe two Hand fingers for Defenders rather than blowing the entire wad at once
Let that one or two finger become more fleshed out and such
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat'd mean more subsequent seasons of the Hand, you realize.
I'm a little disappointed we didn't get to see all five of 'em together as they had mentioned. Bakuto doesn't come back until Sowande's already gotten too far a head of himself.
Speaking of which, Sowande's not around long but man he was a One-Scene Wonder.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! Not necessarily since they are a worldwide conspiracy and the rest might have other shit going on
It leaves the option to do more with them or not
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt amuses me how many secret cabals quietly influencing human history there were in target MCU there were without any of them knowing the others existed (mostly). Across all the movies and shows, there were:
- HYDRA
- “Real” HYDRA
- Various cabals of Inhumans, with Jiaying’s (initially benevolent) group being the most influential.
- Wakanda and it’s implied-to-be-utterly-massive spy network.
- The Sorcerers of Kamar Taj
- The Hand
- The Pride
And I’m pretty sure I missed at least one. The Hand not knowing about any of these is especially hilarious, because they’ve been doing the same kinds of schemes as HYDRA and are after the same kinds of power that the Sorcerers boast and learn about, and you’d think paths would cross now and again.

I think some of them knew about each other. HYDRA and "real" HYDRA definitely did (they worked together, even if they disliked each other), the Sorcerers are presumably well-known in magical circles, and the Pride was pretty small, basically confined to the one city.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.IIRC “Real” HYDRA knew of HYDRA, but only barely the other way around. As I remember, Schmidt knew of them but only used their iconography and concept, with his subsequent organization eventually having no idea the former really existed after his disappearance.
It's too bad, it would have been interesting to see some Colliding Criminal Conspiracies.

The prison episode was my favorite. Bernthal and D'onofrio were just 100% awesome in their respective roles.
