Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Intentional or not, this guy made Loki look alarmingly similar to Joaquin Phoenix as Arther Fleck.

It looks like Sif might be returned to the MCU, so yay! I'm thinking that she's going to be in Love and Thunder.

And another rumor about a Secret Invasion series. I hope they adapt Meet the Skrulls, because that was a fun mini-series.

[up]I feel like that would be a sci-fi version of The Americans. Which could work.

It'll be some fun irony if she ended up being Valkyrie's love interest considering the implications in the first movie that she faced a lot of sexism as a female warrior and Valkyrie is walking proof of how fearsome they used to be. Plus it'd be an easy way for her to fall for Valkyrie without getting Strangled by the Red String or ending up as a Satellite Love Interest in the process.

It’s weird how most of the original Thor cast is dead.

The Asgard side anyway. The Midgard star Earth cast is fine except for Coulson

Did we ever get any word on who if any of Selvig, Jane or Darcy got Snapped? Statistically speaking one of them would have been.

I've been assuming that Valkyrie's love interest will be Jane-Thor, but that could work too.

I'm 100% expecting Jane-Thor to hook back up with Thor-Thor.

I don't want her to. But I'm expecting it.

[up]If they can make it work, and make it NATURAL, sure.

Also wasn’t Sif doing occasional AOS appearances?

[up][up] Basically. Ideally I'd rather Jane-Thor not hook up with anyone if she can help it.

Yeah, Sif appeared in two episodes in AOS. One of which was the infamous Lorelei episode. We don't talk about the Lorelei episode...

What's interesting was that both those episodes took place after Thor: The Dark World, so she was doing missions for Loki without realizing it. It's pretty funny to think about that knowing what Loki was actually doing while he was disguised as Odin.

[up][up]Speaking of Lorelei, I hope they confirm her in Loki series, either as an antagonist or as an ally.

And also to Verity as The Not-Love Interest

[up]It will be the Lorelei of 2,012 so she has never rape anyone.

As far as we know, the original Lorelei was killed by Surtur.

They could just have her not rape anyone.

Kind of like how they had Hank Pym not hit his wife.

In addition Lorelei as a rapist is an example of Adaptational Villainy, they can make her personality more similar to comics.

IIRC that episode correctly, it's mentioned that Lorelei used her powers on Sif's old lover and it's heavily implied she took full advantage of that situation.

So, no. She'd be a rapist by the 2012 timeline too.

Loki at that time in his life was almost pure evil, so he wouldn't care much.

The point is that it's not adaptational villainy. It's from the original comics.

So I don't know where you're getting the idea that her not being a rapist is more in line with the comics.
