Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That's difficult.
You're never really gone in Wrestling. Even the oldest of dudes would find themselves coming back eventually, sometimes for money, but often probably for other reasons.
One Strip! One Strip!RDJ had a record-breaking salary for his last few Marvel films, so unless he makes a series of catastrophic investments or like, decides to buy a planet, he's probably not gonna be hard up for money anytime soon.
I could see Downey and Evans returning as a one-off thing if Marvel eventually does Secret Wars as their next big climax, however. It gives an excuse to have them fight alongside the newer generation of heroes one last time without actually chickening out and undoing their endings.
Over in the Knives Out thread, I stated that I think Rian Johnson might make a good director for an X-Men movie. Which now brings me to who he would cast in this hypothetical X-Men film.
And that's all I got.
Well, good thing that Professor X is British.
...he is British, right? Have the movies lied to me all these years? Because the wiki says he was born in New York, which means he actually must have a New York accent, but I can't imagine him without a British one.
Whew, wait, the wiki says he went to Oxford and lived in London for a long time, so I'm going to assume that he lived there so long he picked up the accent. So he's a New Yorker with a British accent.
Also, Benoit Blanc is awesome and I will brook no dissent.

Don't know who Benoit Blanc is, but I'm gonna dissent it anyway.
Just because you dared me to.
Apparently Johnson's considered just having Blanc switch accents every sequel with no explanation.

Loki: My birthright was to be king!
Odin: Your birthright was to die!
Hashtag Father Of The Year.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. It's basically a big ol' meme with how much Odin sucks at parenting and hiding things. Hela may be a real dirtbag but she has just a bit of valid precedent for being mad at him, even if it's overshadowed by a lot of ill intent.

I mean, hela was making daddy proud and then daddy got pissy for some reason and lock her in her room for years, when she is finally out she find this two weirdos who aparently have a claim to daddy house that she help to build.
I will pissy two.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Odin: Are my words just noise to you?
Thor: She is ill.
Odin: She is mortal. Illness is their defining trait.
Well, screw you too, Popeye.
Edit:
Odin: He killed them all. (Said with a smile).
Theme of this movie: Odin’s a dick.

He was kind of a jerk for a bit sure but frankly it could have been much worse.

"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Bah, I’ll finish it in the morning. Just got done with Frigga’s funeral.
Was she in the last movie? I’m halfway through it and I can’t shake the feeling that her death would carry more if she wasn’t just introduced in this one.
Because if not, feeling mournful here would mostly be too quick? Too “mourning because these characters are saddened by it rather then because I like her”?
Gah. Thoughts need to gather.

RDJ's Tony Stark really feels like he's become the MCU's analogue to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, which I and many others also got sick of even if they both largely nailed their roles (also I consider the movies featuring one of those better than the other of those). Too much of a good thing, ya dig?
