Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Why not? It's not like audiences will be likely to assume they're the same character.
Hell, that trainwreck featured most of the X-Men, but they're not likely to be blacklisted from film any time soon.

Imo it's the best idea for introducing them, especially since loads of those characters started as other characters' supporting or antagonists anyway. Slowly trickle in X-Men mythos characters in tv shows and other films, show that mutants are getting to be more and more of a thing, and then give us a full X-Men movie.

and it bugs the shit out of me that the sexist crowd has appropriated Rogue as their symbol of a character they want to "put Carol in her place," because it's a legitimately good plot idea that I think has some actual potential and all that negative buzz will make is less likely for Marvel Studios to do it.
Personally, I want them to do that plot partially because of those sexist assholes, because you know that movie would end with Carol redeeming Rogue and Rogue looking up to her as an inspiration, and that would just make all those assholes so mad it makes me giddy.
....
Yeah, I'm sold.
Can we work in a narrative about female MRAs somehow? The kind of women who internalize Patriarchal ideals in order to succeed, regurgitate the same nonsense, and promptly get worshipped by conservatives for it? The Right loves trotting out these women to go, "A woman agrees with me, therefore feminism is fake."
The Token X Conservative is a popular tool used with other underprivileged groups too. There's this idea that all underprivileged groups are monoliths and if you can find a single dissenting voice of the same demographic, the whole movement will fall apart like a house of cards.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Brace yourselves and take this with a grain of salt.
Apparently Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness now has casting calls for a teenaged Hispanic female for a supporting role.
America Chavez, bitches!
I like choices. And I never liked Chavez since she’s an abrasive jerk most of the time.
To be fair, there were rumors of a show happening a few months ago that went nowhere. Is this going to be a thing? Keep rumoring Chavez appears in something until she finally does?

I don't know about that, specifically, but I could see Mystique being the type of woman who manipulates and abuses Rogue into obeying her and not becoming independent because Mystique has convinced her that she's worthless and she would hurt herself and others if she tried to live without mother's guidance.

To be clear, I was qualifying all of those under "male characters are rude to her". I was simply using a pretty broad definition of "rude".
I still don't get what's up with the little shitstain in the racing memory telling her she's "going too fast" before speeding away laughing. Like, what's that even supposed to mean? She has to race slower because she's a girl?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Edited by alliterator on Jan 23rd 2020 at 12:50:44 PM
When you put it like that, instead of MRA or whatever, it feels like any Mystique and Rogue/Brotherhood villain group would be focused primarily on doing a 180 from the Jennifer Lawrence version. Instead of making her the anti-heroine turned heroine, it would be a full on villain physically and emotionally.

If they’re going to seed x men stuff in preparation for an X Men movie I think they should make Illyana Strange’s apprentice
That was one of the best What Ifs marvel ever put out
Forever liveblogging the AvengersFor me, I don't want Mystique to be a bad mother to Rogue. Mainly because I want to see her and Destiny Happily Married and raising Rogue together...even as they are both international mutant terrorists.
I do want her to absolutely be a shitty mother to Nightcrawler, though. Nightcrawler was the one she abandoned, while Rogue was the one she adopted. I want Rogue to see how badly she treats other people and rebel because of that, not because Mystique treats her badly.

Said it before, all I ask from Marvel Studios is to give a shit about mutants other than Wolverine, Professor X, Magneto and Deadpool. Also maybe just not do another goddamn Dark Phoenix story period.

Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)

I want this too (I've written at length more than once about how I think a plot like this should go, and I think something really thematic, in keeping with the messages of Carol's series, and heartfelt could be made there), and it bugs the shit out of me that the sexist crowd has appropriated Rogue as their symbol of a character they want to "put Carol in her place," because it's a legitimately good plot idea that I think has some actual potential and all that negative buzz will make is less likely for Marvel Studios to do it.
