Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

OH.
I thought the show made that up. I know her dad really is Mr. Hyde / Calvin Zabo, but I had no clue her mom really was Inhuman....who is she?
One Strip! One Strip!I figured the budget for Inhumans was so low because Feige was stuck doing it as an obligation to Perlmutter but didn't want to invest much into it. Hence why he got Scott Buck in the first place, because the man could be counted on to deliver a functional product that passed compliance with a low budget, subjective quality be damned. A glorified Ashcan Copy, in other words.
I suspect this was also the case with the first season of Iron Fist; they needed to squeeze something out before The Defenders landed but didn't or couldn't invest the same amount of effort as with the other three shows, so they just tossed it onto Scott Buck's shoulders so they had something to work with by then.

That was a stupid idea...
...though ironically the Mutants are now becoming a nation like the Inhumans and it's working for them.
Hell, Cyclops is even on their old stomping grounds on the blue area of the moon. The ultimate Take That! if you will.
But it goes to show the Mutants just have a better concept...shame they keep getting massacred by humanity. The new Hickman run is dealing with that, but by making them decided to get their own black jacks and hookers...

I've mentioned it before, but the ultimate irony could be that they effectively drop a terragin-bomb equivalent in the MCU in order to get the mutant population up.
My general sentiment is that the way to integrate mutants into the MCU is to have them historically existent, but extremely rare. In short having the mutant gene only resulted in an absolutely minuscule chance of developing powers. This meant that no one really understood mutants as a distinct category.
But then something happens that causes the mutant population to skyrocket by causing almost everyone with the mutant gene to start manifesting powers. In the comics this was atomic testing, but in the MCU it might be better if it was something a bit more recent...effectively making it a terragin bomb analogue.
The reason why this works is that it's the only way to have a big modern mutant population and have historical mutants when it's exceptionally relevant to the character (ie Wolverine, Magneto), while at the same time explain why no one has ever mentioned them before.
Bad news, true believers:
- Filming for Shang-Chi got delayed.
probably due to the fire going on in Australia.
- And filming for Hawkeye got postponed indefinitely.
Bear in mind, this might be more due to future plot stuff and to find a way to squeeze the show onto Hailee Steinfeld's schedule since Marvel REALLY wants her as Kate Bishop, but she's preoccupied with the Apple TV+ series Dickinson (which we don't seem to have a page for, incidentally).
On the upside, Ms. Marvel is still due for filming this April and casting is going on for Moon Knight and She-Hulk, so don't fret!
Man, Marvel's been having kind of a rough week, hasn't it? They lost a director, had to post-pone one of their shows, and delay shooting on another film because all of Australia is on fire!
I guess that's positive of having so many projects on the back-burner (poor choice of words, I know). If one goes awry, you always have at least one other you can bump up the schedule.
But seriously, it's terrible what's going on in Australia.
Would be fun to have Andrew Garfield in the MCU.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Garfield is Jewish and it would be quite interesting to see him go from Spider-Man to Moon Knight (two superheroes who generally don't get along that well). And, I mean, if we get a Secret Avengers film, we could even see Moon Knight fighting alongside Spider-Man.

Has it been said that Moon Knight and Spidey don't get along?
Now that I think about it, while they are both Street Level, I don't recall any stories with them working together.
One Strip! One Strip! Not bummed about Hawkeye being delayed since I don't really care about the MCU version of the character. Still, sucks about Kate.
Start caring.
I swear it's a miracle Marvel haven't thrown him under the bus considering how most talk about him starts with who cares about MCU Hawkeye.
Swear to god, Clint deserves more respect than he gets from all sides.
....but I am down for more Mockingbird, I'll admit. Maybe get that Most Wanted series that got destroyed before it could even try anything.
One Strip! One Strip!Dammit, I want a Mockingbird series stat. I really hope she shows up in the last season of Agents of SHIELD because, well, it's the last season.
Well I think everyone was an asshole in Ultimate Marvel except for Peter, so not surprised they didn't see eye to eye there.
As for the second point for 616, that seems to go for most people these days.
One Strip! One Strip!
