Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Scott Derrickson has dropped out of directing Doctor Strange 2
.

Huh. I don't think this is a cause for concern yet, but that Tweet is kind of revealing.
I don't entirely mind a change of directors though. The first Doctor Strange (2016) movie was visually engaging, but a pretty routine for the most part. So assuming a new director has the freedom to add their own flair to things, this could be for the better. I know there are people on this thread who hated the first film, so I'm willing to wait and see where this might go. Hopefully Marvel will take their time so the story will work.
But looking at this from afar, this is reminding me of the change of directors for Thor: The Dark World. So... take that as you will.
Oddly enough, Doctor Strange is one of the few films I've seen more than once in the theaters. Kind of an odd choice for a film I thought was okay overall.

Oh, there are tons of directors I would love to see tackle a Doctor Strange movie:
- Jennifer Kent (The Babadook)
- Leigh Whannell (Upgrade)
- Sophia Takal (Black Christmas)
- Mike Flanagan (Hush, Ouiji, Haunting of Hill House)
And those are just horror directors. Flanagan, especially, since I saw some great Doctor Strange-like moments in Doctor Sleep.

I'd suggest Guillermo del Toro but that would probably just lead to the same situation.
This song needs more love. He'd also probably pass on it anyway, because he prefers to work on his original stuff these days. He only seems to do adaptations of stuff that really resonates with him, like his old Hellboy movies. Especially in the second one where he was allowed to do basically whatever he wanted.

Huh. I did like how screwy the camera would get in Upgrade's fight scenes...
Wasn't the new Black Christmas considered subpar?
And as much as I love GDT, he's the kind of guy that’s rather play with his own toys.
Actually, someone suggested Matt Shakman,
who also happens to be directing WandaVision.
Didn't Guillermo del Toro and Neil Gaiman try to get a Doctor Strange film off the ground before the MCU took off?
Eh. If it happens, it happens.
He can't shit the bed any worse than Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, or Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Note out of those three, I only really hate Iron Man 3, but since those other two are considered as bad or worse, I felt I'd mention them out of fairness.
At the very least, we'd get some interesting spectacle out of Bay. Maybe we'll even get lucky. He did create the most skilled version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...
<Everyone looks at him like he's insane>
Yes. I said it. They're fucking huge, but just as stealthy as any other incarnations. They are the most skilled. This is fact.
Hell, I even kinda liked the Out of the Shadows.
Edit: Almost forgot my real reason for posting.
Watching Endgame again, and I have to wonder when Tony suspected that Strange's plan was still in motion: was it the moment he figured out time travel by pure accident, or maybe when everyone came back?
He had to have clicked in at some point since he knew to ask if this was the time line where they won.

One Strip! One Strip!I sometimes feel like I am the only one who likes Ultron. Both the movie and character.
