Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I gotta admit, Jared Leto is the main thing putting me off of that movie. He's just so creepy.

The joker blog harley is for me the best harley because it actually show how much joker influence her, while most of the time she just fall for the guy.

@blueace partly because that, partly because the Joker doesn't (or at least in that iteration didn't) like knock offs or copy cats

For Moon Knight, I mostly just want something that scratches the same itch Legion did.

Jared Leto leading a cult honestly isn't too much worse than what Gwyneth Paltrow does. She runs one of those bullshit "essential oils, healing crystals, herbal remedies" companies.

I've also heard Leto has sexually abused teenage girls who are fans of his band although I don't remember the specifics.

> I just had the bizarre thought of what a Nolan-verse Harley Quinn would be like.

I pictured a copycat Joker with none of Harley's charm,Nolan had a habit of making Batman's villains unlikable terrorists

At least Joker was oretty good, he had the charm of not giving a fuck about what he did and being a full-blown crazy guy.

But yeah, Harley Quinn wouldn't quite fit in with her original characterization in the Nolanverse

Nolan had a habit of making Batman's villains unlikable terrorists

So, basically what they actually are then.tongue

Seriously though, most of Batman's villains are honest to God terrorists. Hell, the Nolan movies are one of the few movies I've seen the word "terrorist" used to describe a white character.

I mean, sure, you can say that about the twist villain for Rises, but every other Dark Knight Trilogy villain is enjoyable in their own way.

Ra's al Ghul is my favorite Batman villain in both comics and movies. I find him more interesting than Joker. Though Joker is more fun. I also didn't mind Band until the reveal. Scarecrow was great too. Talia was the only one I found boring or unneeded.

These 2 are so different types of villains that I find it very hard to compare them.

Ra's is the deluded, but ultimately well-intentioned zealot. Joker is 100 % evil and insane.

Bane is Hispanic and Nolan turned him into Talia's Alfred.

Presumably because he didn't think he could get people to come see a movie starring "So and so Sanchez."

It's sad because despite being undermined in the final act, Nolan!Bane is still probably the best version of the character outside of the comics, although that's a low bar considering in most he's just a brainless thug.

That's it, I'm getting myself a Marvel movie that's more Christopher Nolan-friendly!
