Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Well, on top of presumably having competent martial arts skills, yes. Would add an interesting dynamic to fighting Shang-Chi, one of them having a powerful ranged attack while the other is a close-range fighter.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Shang Chi could teach Peter martial arts.
Even in one scene they could show Shang Chi easily beating Peter.

I mean. It's not like there's some shortage of available villains. Marvel just bought Fox!
Spidey can fight Magneto. Problem solved.
EDIT: I'm joking, of course. But actually, I've been wanting Spider-Man v. Magneto for a long time over on the comics side. Spidey often takes on entire X-Men teams at once, as does Magneto, so I've been itching to see these two brilliant minds with phenomenal powersets and a wealth of experience duke it out for years.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. That could be cool.
It's kinda funny to me how in 2017 the MCU gave us (in my opinion) three of the best movies in the franchise (if not in the entire genre) yet the TV/Netflix side wrought the shitfires that were Iron Fist season 1 and Inhumans, plus the supposedly better but still disappointing Defenders. At least we got Runaways and The Punisher, but otherwise that uh, wasn't that division's finest hour.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Manipulating the molecular structure of matter (as one of the Ten Rings powers) seems like something that would be incredibly powerful if used effectively.
Like, on an insta-kill level. Hey, I just transmuted your arm into air. Hey, I just transmuted your heart into air. Plus giving virtually unlimited resources - you’ve basically got a Star Trek replicator.
And noting that electromagnetic powers can be used to manipulate light (and other forms of electromagnetic radiation) is one of my favourite things. Invisibility, yep. Illusions, yep. Give people cancer, yep. (Magneto is pulling all his punches.) Lightning bolts, yep. Infrared or ultraviolet vision (or, well, sensory abilities, if not vision), yep.
As an enemy for a guy with super-martial-arts, this would seem seriously overpowered, except that superpowered characters never use the most creative and versatile powers to their full potential.
Depends on how it fires.
If it can just manipulate any matter at any time, it's pretty hard to top. That's Reality Gem levels of unbeatable - though the Reality Gem itself did get severely nerfed in the MCU. MCU Reality Gem is basically just illusion magic and has no permanent effect of any kind (boy, would the egg have been on Malekith's face if he actually pulled off his scheme).
But if it has to shoot a beam or projectile of some kind, then it can be dodged. And that would make it no different than any other death ray in terms of usefulness in combat.

Thing with the Mandarin's ten rings powers is, half of them boil down to "shoot destructive blast of energy at you".
