Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'd note, all the Mighty Whitey controversy surrounding Danny Rand/Iron Fist kinda goes out the window if he's no longer the star of the show/movie, but instead a supporting character in an Asian character's story. If Danny were made the Rhodey to Shang-Chi's Tony Stark ...
I honestly have no problem with Iron Fist being white (particularly once we start getting actual Asian superheroes). My major problem with Finn Jones was that the guy clearly didn't have a martial arts background, and it showed.
In the movies, that's not as much of a problem since a lot of things can be done to mask the presence of a stunt performer, especially with CGI and creative lighting. But in Iron Fist the budget was low and the fight choreography already wasn't all that great, so you had a lot of very awkward and very obvious camera cuts to try and work around the fact that our supposed kung-fu master could not fight very fast or very well.
I know Simu Liu has a background in stunts, so hopefully this is less of an issue in the film (and of course, like I said, worst case scenario, the movies have an actual budget to cheat a little).

Going by how the MCU has been doing things recently, I'm betting he just straight-up has the Ten Rings, and the final battle is going to be Shang-Chi the Lightning Bruiser vs Mandarin the Kung-Fu Wizard.
In the comics the ten rings' powers are:
- Manipulate the molecular structure of matter.
- Shoot a beam of concussive force.
- Create tornados.
- Shoot a beam that disintegrates matter. Has a 20 minute cooldown.
- Create an area of darkness.
- Uses magnetism to do all sorts of bullshit, such as create blinding flashes of light, make the opponent super heavy, levitate objects, and create illusions. Probably will be limited to only one of these in the film.
- Shoot fire.
- Create psychic illusions or paralyze the opponent psychically.
- Shoot lightning.
- Shoot a beam of ice.
Even if it happened, it would be with another actor and ignoring all the events of the series.
Spider-Man's been to space. He's fought Thanos twice. He has an epansive powerset, a litany of high-tech gadgets, his own version of the Iron Spider suit that he designed himself, and he's even got super-senses that make Matt's look cheap by comparison.
The hell does DareDevil have to teach him?
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.How to pick your battles- wait, Matt doesn't know how to do that.
How not to get taken in by people who offer you nothing but approval- wait, Matt doesn't know how not to do that either.
Seriously though, overall Peter is an experienced hero but not an especially mature or wise one, constantly blundering over his own rashness and ignorance. He acts more inexperienced than he his.
Buuuut, that's because MCU Spidey is constantly written as "a kid in search of a parental figure," and not as his own person. He's always going to act inexperienced as long at the MCU keeps writing him as wanting/needing a mentor.
So as much as I'd love if they did the "Shang-Chi as Spidey's trainer" bit from the comics, I think he could do with a few movies where he's on his own.

Heh I just found this video tuning the My Way cover from Team Four Star with Thanos.

Matt: Listen Peter, there's one very important piece of advice I have for you. Never, ever sleep with a supervillain. No matter how hot. Believe me, it's just setting yourself up for disaster. I should know, I've slept with two supervillains and it's caused me nothing but grief. Sure, you could say that about all of my relationships, but those two were especially bad.
Peter: Okay, got it. No sexy times with supervillains.
<Later after hooking up with Black Cat>
Peter: Matt, I am so, so sorry.
Disgusted, but not surprised

Angry military guy shooting every other criminal he runs into while being too angry to die.
The issue is when the writers glorify him.
Wake me up at your own risk.
