Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Bullseye has been beaten by Daredevil, though. And I'd say that Daredevil and Hawkeye are pretty much on par with each other.

Bullseye has also lost to DareDevil more than he has won.

Well, natch. He's a comicbook villain. He's going to lose repeatedly to the guy whose name is on the cover.

One thing that sets him apart from Hawkeye is that Hawkeye has gone up against genuinely superpowered beings repeatedly. Bullseye rarely does. And for good reason — one of the few times he did try to attack a superpowered human, American Eagle, he got utterly thrashed even before his nanochain was activated.

The beatdown American Eagle gave Bullseye was one of the most satsifying comic book moments ever. Both the physical one and the verbal one.

Bullseye is usually pretty smart in that regard. He knows his limits.

I think he makes it a habit to avoid Spiderman for that reason, since the latter is essentially Daredevil with Super-Strength.

Serious Criminal Barney Barton

I can't stop smiling at how similar this name sounds to a certain other Barney that Maria Hill may or may not know.

Hope the Hulk takes his own advice. It would the least he could do with all the destruction he causes.

I mean, I'm pretty sure Bullseye wouldn't rob a bank, but that's one of those things that's funny enough that you can ignore any Fridge Logic on it.

Especially since Bullseye doesn't need money. He's got a ton of cash saved up from assassination jobs because he rarely ever spends it. He's a hired killer because he finds killing fun. In fact, he kills people so often that the authorities have trouble figuring out whether his latest victim(s) was someone whom he was hired to kill or someone whom he killed solely for the shits and giggles. Which may also be a major reason he's hired — it makes it harder to trace the victims back to the ones who hired him.

On the topic of random assassins, could anyone see Arcade being used? The guy has a gimmick that would be great (IMO) for an episode of the Disney+ shows.

I'd love to see Arcade. Heck, have him be an MCU "breather" villain before the next big event. Believe it or not, I think Peter Dinklage could pull off that role, and "evil amusement park" would be a fun trope for one of the heroes to take on.

He's a very different man from Short Peter Dinklage.

Hmm.

Arcade does have cred as a Spidey villain as well as an X-man villain. He could be a good opponent for the third movie.

Arcade's shtick might be too similar to Mysterio though. Its played a different way but the murder funhouse illusions nothing is as it seems stuff might overlap too much.

It’s why I see him in one of the shows TBH. Putting Ms. Marvel or She-Hulk through his “abusement park”. That or Winter Soldier stuck in Murderworld.

I'm surprised Arcade and Mystery never teamed up in fact.

Then again, maybe both are too Prima-donnaish for that. I can picture them clashing on some aesthetics.

Plus Beck was dead for a few years in universe.

Mysterio is all about style and spectacle, Arcade doesn't really give a shit about anything except getting paid. It's a Performer Versus Technician deal but where they're both supervillains so probably end up literally fighting each other.

Arcade is actually independently wealthy and doesn't need the money from his killings. In fact, despite what he charges for each job, he actually loses money on his Murderworlds. Like Bullseye, he does this shit for fun.

[up]I think it got mentioned once he broke even by renting them out to villains to train themselves and their henchmen.

It was also mentioned he throws himself huge birthday parties every year but the only reason people show up is for the free food.

See, he’s perfect for the MCU shows. I’m glad Fox didn’t use him.

Which makes sense if you think about it.

One does not build a murder theme-park with death-carousels and massacre-pinball because one is interested in pragmatism. Arcade read The Most Dangerous Game once, thought it was the coolest shit he'd ever read, and promptly misinterpreted the word "Game" in the best possible way.
