Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Many critics praised Endgame for giving him "depth that he didn't have before". Ignoring the fact that Ultron gave him a much more unique story by giving him a family and a pretty stable one. Something not seen until Tony in Endgame.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadGonna be forward with you all, I love the MCU but sometimes it becomes clear the writers just don't have a good grasp on what to do with some characters. Hawkeye is sadly one of those. Pretty much none of his appearances have captivated me into caring for his character even when the opportunities to make me care presented themselves. He's boring. He's written boring, acting mostly boringly, and yet Ao U and Endgame clearly don't want me to think so. Well, too bad.
You can probably infer that I'm not jazzed for his Disney+ show. I mean hey, maybe it'll turn out good. Never say never and all that. But I'm not holding my breath for Clint himself to be the interesting part (it is introducing Kate Bishop after all).
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)He is also the only one with any idea of what what and to have everything figured out. He is made the heart of the team in Ultron and gets some of my favorite lines. It's not much, but it's better than him being all brooding and just like every other superhero. I actually found it refreshing to have something that I hadn't had in a superhero movie at that point.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI mean, he can still be pretty fun.
His reaction to being on a floating island fighting robots with a bow; his annoyance at Quicksilver.
Even his earlier appearance when he's watching Thor beat the shit out of entire shield contingent.
They just don't let him really flex his muscles.
I mean, if Tag has shown us anything, it's that Jeremy Renner can be a fun dude.
One Strip! One Strip!Hawkeye was given a wife and children because he's supposed to be the Avenger who has the closest thing to a normal life. He represents what the Avengers are supposed to be fighting for, the regular people. This is shown in this bit of dialogue:
- Laura: You know I totally support your Avenging, I couldn't be prouder. But I see those guys, those "Gods"...
Clint: You don't think they need me.
Laura: I think they do. Which is a lot scarier.
It's Hawkeye that gets Wanda to fight, even though she's a lot more powerful than him.

I recall in Fractions’s run it’s the opposite. Clint Barton is more like Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training, where his skill with a bow is impeccable but it takes so much to keep up with gods that the rest of his life is in shambles. And Kate only looks more competent by comparison.
How DOES Clint compare to someone like Bullseye anyway? I never did see season 3 of Daredevil, but don't they have basically the same skillset? I want to say Bullseye is accurate with anything he throws, but I'm fairly sure I've seen stories where Hawkeye can use all manner of projectiles too.

Kaze ni Nare! What would Malakeith be right about? I don’t remember but was there some kind of philosophy he was pushing?
Hawkeye has always been one of those “love em or hate em” characters. He’s either a funny, relatable and competent superhero or an insufferable blowhard who has no business being on the Avengers, let alone a superhero. That he is often at the center of some really controversial stories like how he treated Bobbi after she killed the Phantom Rider for raping her or killing Bruce during Civil War 2 doesn’t help. It’s one of the many things he has in common with his DC counterpart, Green Arrow.
Depending on which Clint fans you ask this might be a good thing.

Isn't the unfortunate canon now that it was consensual? Also, I thought Bruce asked him to prevent him from turning to Hulk.
Oh, yeah there's that.
Still, it wasn't a good look for Clint before the retcon.
And this
was the Hulk's response to that in Avengers: No Road Home #1.
- Hulk: Banner comes to you to help kill me - kill us. And instead of sending him to a shrink... you go along with it.
Then again, I'm one of the few who thinks the Illuminati were justified in sending the Hulk into space so I'm not entirely against Clint.

Whatever that is worth.
A few years ago, Green Scar was the most powerful Hulk and Doc Green was the smartest.
I a few more years, Immortal Hulk probably won't be top of the foodchain anymore either.

Nice to hear someone giving Hawkeye some credit.
As much as I like Endgame, killing Widow and sparing him likely won't help how some people seem to find him boring.
I don't blame him. It's not like he stood there and let it happen: he literally did everything in his power to stop it and it's just bad luck they ended up in a position where there was no way to prevent it anymore.
